Some storage guidance

Im living in japan currently for my job and going out and purchasing cigars is not the most convenient for me right now, so I have everything sent. Also you could imagine I cant really have a nice humidor setup at this point in time. So right now, Im using two java cigar boxes (my main cigar), to store all of my cigars. Ive got 10 or so javas, a few cubans, a davidoff, avos, a whole variety of cigars stored all about. Ive had a majority of these cigars for around 2 or 3 weeks now, and to my knowledge none of them seem too dry at all. Ive been using water pillows and some humidification beads to keep them. In your oppinion, do the water pillows and beads do enough for the cigars? Im going to be here for 6 more months, is there any other innaffrodable route to go, or am I doing the right things? Ive recently transferred all of my cigars to one box and am seasoning the other box currently. Any suggestions on better ways to keep them all without a whole lot of tools at my disposal? Im getting a humidity guage sent to me within the week as well. Also, this may seem like a stupid new guy cigar smoker question, but ive just never heard anything either way- is it better to leave cigars in the celaphane wrappers or take them out of the wrappers when i store them? Greatly appreciated everyone thanks a ton!

Welcome to CP from Central Va. Enjoy your stay here Devil Dog.

Do us a favor. Go over to the Introduce Yourself Here forum and tell us a little about yourself. Like, what you do for a living (Are you a Marine?), how old you are, where originally from, etc.

Not trying to bust your chops, but it's considered rude not to tell us a little about yourself before making other post here.

Also, try using the search function for your question to see what you can come up with.

They sell plastic tupperwear in Japan buy a good size box and use that. It'll work much better then the cigar box you're using now.

It's getting to be a trend around here. That's what happens when you make exceptions I guess.

Doc.

It's been that way at least the short time I have been around...exceptions don't seem to have any impact on the frequency. For that to be the case, those making a pattern of it would have to search out how others introduced (or not) themselves, and decide that it is OK to do so. If they did that research, they would clearly realize that this is NOT the way to start here. Whew. No problem.

Sorry for the threadjack. You've gotten some good advice here. Welcome aboard.

I suppose I can answer the question.
I use one water pillow in an Onyx Churchill box for a temporary solution while I work on getting my humidor ready.
it seems to hold the humidity very well, and pretty consistently.
cheap too, my local shop sells a pillow for 59 cents.

This man knoweth what he speaketh.

Regular boxes (in my experience) just don't hold humidity very well. They can be a decent short-term solution, but for anything longer than a few weeks, I'd grab some plastic ware or a cooler if I didn't have access to anything else.

Wow, my apologies everyone. Didnt expect to get snapped at by 10 people for not introducing myself first...Ill make a point of doing that right now.

im not sure that anyone snapped at you. Welcome to CP, though...and I will echo the suggestions that you use tupperware or a small cooler. I would also suggest getting 2 tupperwares so you can keep the flavored javas away from the non flavored cigars you have. With the tupperware, the water pillows and/or the beads should be fine IMO. again, Welcome to CP
