Jonsing for football?

List your top five QB's and a brief statement to back it up.

1. Brady.....The guy is simply great, I hope he comes back strong
2. Big Ben.....I may be a homer but he wins big games and defenses hate to play him
3. Brees......Hard to tell unless he plays for a real team but he is damn good
4. Rivers......Same as Brees
5. Manning....There is just something about this guy, he could be #1 or #2 but.......... And Indy is headed for a down-turn

Honorable mention:

Matt Ryan......Young but WOW!
Chad Pennington......Now that he is in a good system he could shine.

Biggest bust?
Kurt Warner.......His agent is fighting for top five money......I simply don't buy the hype about him or the Cardinals, the Brown or Bengals could compete in that division.

My top 5 would be:

1. Tom Brady
2. Drew Brees
3. Philip Rivers
4. Ben Roethlesberger (I'm not sure I spelled his name right)
5. Matt Ryan (Possible top 3 QB in a year or two)

Biggest bust:
Staying with the Cardinals but going with Matt Leinart

the Browns or Bengals could compete in that division.

Oh come on, the Browns and Bengals can't compete with themselves much less in some other division! :laugh:

1. Brady - Best of the best and has a line that protects him;
2. Brees - Smooth and accurate passer and you asked about QB quality not team quality so he is #2;
3. P. Manning - He is a winner and can make plays, again, you asked about QB quality and not team quality;
4. Roethlisberger - I like the Miami U. product because he has grit and determination; and
5. Ryan - Very fun to watch and can control a game.

Other notably out of the mix:

E. Manning - Doesn't have the consistent pure skill of the others;
P. Rivers - I am just not sold on how well he can manage a game;
C. Palmer - He is much worse now that he has no line to protect him but is a quality passer;
K. Warner - Yes, he is smart but not on the level with the others.

I am sorry you guys, But I think none of you have your head on straight. Top Five in NFL should go to players that have good history to back them up.

My list: Top 5 in the NFL today

1. Manning: I am sorely sorry to piss on your parade. But give me a guy who only had one losing season in his career as well as never missing a damn game, as well as the numbers. Oh I forgot one super bowl ring brings him to the top. This should be a non-debate. This guy will break every passing record one day. I really do not know what you guys are thinking by not even mentioning manning in the top 5. MY GOD :sign: oh BTW you dont win 3 MVP awards for no reason.

2. Brady: Some of you have a man or gal crush on this guy. Jesus, He is a winner thats all that matters. But I am not putting him on the number one slot, why is that? Its because first of all, history tells us he will have a terrible year next year coming off the ACL. (Carson Palmer anyone?) History also tells us outside of the the record breaking year, he was a Joe Montana type QB. Very good but nothing like a Marnio, Favre, Young, Etc. He wins championships. If this would be the top 5 winners QB in the NFL, no doubt he be Number one, but based on statistics, Years played, Injuries etc, he sits in the number 2 slot.

3. Drew Brees- I was debating whether or not to put BIG BEN in this slot because quite frankly, Brees is a loser. He has and Probably will never win an Super bowl. He is a freak of nature QB, throws perfect passes and nice touches. There is a down fall of being a freak of nature QB, you never run the ball or always scoring extremely quick and gives your defense no time to rest up. More times than not that translates into not going very far in the Playoffs. I give him the nod, due to me trying to not show my BIG BEN bias love. :laugh:

4. Big Ben- nuf said 2 SB, and a play maker like no other QB in this game besides Vick (as we know how that turned out) :rolleyes:

5. Romo. I am shocked how no one even mention this guy in the honorable mention. Why, this is why I had to write something here before I go crazy. Romo may not have won much yet (nothing to be exact), but he sure is a hell of a baller. got all the natural talents to take it to the next level. Again going with history, history shows, when TO turns into BO, QB seem to suffer that year, and guess what the following year that TO is gone, those QBs bounce back with outstanding numbers. Remember the first 6 weeks of Mcnabb before he got hurt the year after TO left.

I do not know how you can put Ryan as a top 5 QB my god, did we forget that that was his first year. Sophomore slump anyone? Did we also forget that, Alanta had Mike Turner, any QB that has a good running game is going to have a good year regardless. BIG BEN, Flacco? Putting a rookie in the top five is plainly stupid. QB need to build good history before being put into the top 5.

PS. Cassel anyone??? if anyone should be in the top five if Ryan is in there, Cassel should be first.

I was doing okay with your love affair with Manning ;) but Romo? Time may very well indicate that Romo doesn't even belong in the top 10, he had one good year and last year showed that was a fluke.

As far as Manning, he has the numbers but he also has the failures at key times. He is too selfish and I think his winning days (at previous levels) are over. In pressure situations he often makes bad reads because he has a good check down standing right in front of him but that doesn't translate to him being on a highlight reel so he misses that option.

Your bias because you hate the "American team" because there is only one American team is thats da Steelers. I for one was able to look beyond the bias that have blinded your older eyes. :laugh:

Just because Romo is the only notable Cowboy player that isn't a criminal or a psycho (so far) is no reason to give him such a lofty perch :whistling: The Steelers aren't America's team.....they are "The World's Team" :thumbs:

Now that might be taking things a bit to far.... :laugh:

Lots of people are down on Romo, but then they forget, he has only beeen the full time starter for a season and a half, or is it 2 and half, I forget, too many football seasons in Iraq will do that to ya. He has a drawbacks (to many INT) but he is as good as anyone at extending / making plays, and has pretty good touch on the deep ball. I would put him at my #5

#4 Big Ben - holds on to the ball to long at times, other than that, I would let him back up anytime in Dallas..... :sign:

#3 I dunno, you pick.....

#2 Brady...check his win column

#1 P. Manning might be the smartest QB in the game right now.

The Steelers won the SuperBowl......That was SOOOO last season! :sign: :sign: :sign:

Tim

1. Tom Brady - Great team leader, strong, smart and not easily rattled.
2. Manning - Generally controls the game and reads defenses very well. It just kills me to watch him with his happy feet.
3. Drew Brees - great QB with great accuracy and vision. He does seem to crack a little under pressure and if he were with a great team might make a difference.
4. Chad Pennington - He is a great QB and in this program may show his leadership abilities and do well.
5. Big Ben - I hate to put him in this mix, but the statement " defenses hate to face him" is accurate. He has a lot of heart and physical attributes, but I don't think him to bright.

Honorable mention has to be Ryan, he has a lot of potential, with some experience I think he will be great.

Romo cracks under the slightest pressure and the only think that Rivers has shown me is that San Diego made a mistake getting rid of Brees.

Ken

I was with Sweets up until he listed Romo. Romo? Really? Right now, I would even rank Vick higher than Romo.

That's gotta just kill the Jets fans who were convinced he was the problem. :D

That's what they said about Bradshaw ;)

I'm sure Vick is higher than Romo. Vick should go to the Browns where he can script all kinds of choreography to present to the Dawg Pound :)

Pennington was a definite honorable mention in my list!!!!

*Romo... He was almost on my 2008 Bust list. One good year does not constitute a good QB.

excuse me, but you are all wrong. how bout 2 good years and one good half year as a QB. Just check his stats out

http://www.nfl.com/players/tonyromo/careerstats?id=ROM787981

Though alot do not think he had a good year last year, he had a decent year. Not one a terrible year just a Decent one. Alot can say the same about Brady, only put up one year of outstanding numbers, every year before then was a decent year. The biggest difference is, Brady is a winner. Which is why I placed him higher than Romo. There is not a player out there IMO that is head above everyone else. MY personal opinion. There is Manning, Brady and everyone else. Two things we want a QB to have be a winner and have the numbers. Manning most def has that, Brady has the winning along with many years of good play. (limit mistakes). To make this a little more interesting, I would be debating putting Brady into the top 10 QB of all time, Manning not a doubt in my mind. (Though I thought about it Brady fits into number 10, Though I debated) :laugh:

There is bet here somewhere cause I think Romo is WAY over-rated! And I am pretty sure that this year will prove it......kinda like last year did! He was the NFL's cinderella story two years ago which got everybody thinking he was special. He ain't shit!

As a "semi" (I'll explain why in a second) Cowboy's fan you would think I'd chime in defending Romo but I just can't. He chokes when it matters and that is all that matters. Sure he can extend the play, but half the time he does he fumbles the ball, I'd rather just have a QB that doesn't fumble and throws it out of bounds when he gets pressured.

<rant on>
I've had a hard time watching pro football lately just because these guys bitch and moan about their contracts and half of them don't back up what they say to the press come game time. It seems as though MOST of the players these days play for the paycheck and not for the game which takes a lot of the enjoyment out of the game. I am a HUGE college football fan because most of these guys play for their school, they play for their team, and they play for the game. I am a fan of the Cowboys but it almost pains me to watch them play because of how much they spend on the roster and it just doesn't translate to wins/superbowls. For the same reason I have a hard time watching the Mavericks, so much money and no championships. The only Dallas team I enjoy watching is the Stars because they don't have the best guys in the league, but they play the game hard, and even when a lot of key players are injured they play whistle to whistle win or lose.
<rant off>

Sorry for going WAY off topic, but I just don't like the state of the NFL now and think these guys need a serious reality check.

This is all subjective and people can argue all day long on these topics, but you stated "top 5 in the NFL today" . Eli Manning over the course of his first 4 years in the league (I know he's been there 5 now) has better stats across the board then Peyton did. He won a Super Bowl and S.B MVP in his 4th year....it took Peyton what, 28 years before he got his !?!? :laugh: . Yea, if we're going by career stats, Peyton is the man AFTER Brady (hard to argue against Tom's bling and big game wins compared to Peyton's 1). I'm a true Eli hater and would love for Peyton to quarterback my team, but looking at what Eli has done so far with inferior talent to throw to, you have to put Eli in the mix here also if you put Peyton in there.

SO SO SO SO Not true at all. I wont even say anything. I will just point at the stats.

Eli- http://www.nfl.com/players/elimanning/profile?id=MAN473170

Peyton-http://www.nfl.com/players/peytonmanning/profile?id=MAN515097

Through my eyes last year was Eli only stand out year, when I say standout year I say that modestly. his Highst passer rating in his short time in the NFL was 86.4% every other year he didnt even break 80%. Peyton, on the other hand in his first five years never had only one passing rating under 80%. Sorry close but no CIGAR :laugh:

David

1. Joey Harrington
2. Charlie Batch
3. Andre Ware
4. Rodney Pete
5. Scott Mitchell

What? We never have a damn QB!!! :angry:

Sorry for going WAY off topic, but I just don't like the state of the NFL now and think these guys need a serious reality check.
Your rant is exactly why I enjoy being a Steeler fan. Don't get me wrong, I guarantee they have their share of problems but they seem to do a better job than the rest. And somehow, the Rooney's keep the BS to a minimum and manage to keep what BS they do have out of the limelight!

That and I love to listen to excuses that losers bring up for hating the Steelers........they pay the refs, the NFL favors them, they cheat, they play dirty.......waaaaaaaaaaa, waaaaaa, waaa! It's like every other facet of life; losers cry foul :p

When I watch Eli play it reminds me of the kid who's dad forced him to play pee wee football and the kid would rather have been cleaning toilets with his toothbrush. He looks scared and lost!
