I've read several threads on here lately that are somewhat alarming. Seems people priorities when purchasing cigars online is focused on price. While I understand pricing is always a consideraton when making a purchase it should not in anyway be the first consideration. The exception to that would be if the price is way out of the norm.

Knowing the source you are dealing with is the number 1 priority. The cigar community is a fairly tight knit group. If you have found a supposed source and have never done business with them, make a post asking anyone that has had dealings to PM you. Do not make your request in the same post as the vendor... take your post to the lobby or cigar discussion room. Vendors usually only monitor the post they put on line and asking the question in their post will most likely get you a response from them pretending to be a neutral person. If you get no response bump your message once, maybe twice, and then realize that no one has dealt with them. This may be a good indicator if you should be doing business with them or not. If you receive some feedback from someone, consider the source of the feedback. While I would not dismiss info provided by someone new to the community I also wouldn't give it a lot of weight. While this may sound cold ask yourself if someone approached you on the street and offered to go buy you "fill in the blank" would you give them money? No different when dealing with an unproven source.

Most cigar smokers don't really need more than one good source and two or three is more than adaquate for you to get to know your retailer and your retailer to get to know you. Don't always make it about money. Constantly trying to squeeze an extra $10 out of a deal or bouncing around from retailer to retailer will not do you any favors in the long run.

Those that continue to purchase from whoever has the "lowest prices" and/or unproven web sites claiming to be the "real thing" will eventually get burned with fake product or inferior cigars. Count on it.

Last, a majority of members live in the United States and buying cuban cigars is illegal. There should be no reason for anyone to openly post names of vendors nor be comparing them in an open forum. TAKE IT TO PM!

Well said!

Might I add...don't even discuss where the country of orgin is you may be purchasing your cigars openly in a post!

Good post...Eventually, the vendor that you always go to will wind up treating you better in the long haul vs. vendor flopping or bluelight special buying ;)

Nice post, Kenny. Now to see if anyone pays attention! :whistling:
