I really don't mean to step on anyone's toes, but I was wondering if,when this goes down, Moki would be willing to make it a true "blind taste test"? It would require the help of some of your buddies, but from your own words:
What I did for each cigar was as follows:
1) I looked at the cigar. What kind of wrapper was it? That right there can exclude Cuba for certain wrapper types. What vitola is it? Certain nuances to classic Cuban vitolas can include or exclude the cigar right there.
2) I used my knowledge of JC, the person administering the test. I know in broad terms what cigars he is likely to have, and what taste profile he likes.
3) The taste of the cigar itself, recalling taste profiles of the cigars I have had in the past.
If you took away 1 and 2 above, I think I would have done worse
If you were to take away #s 1 and 2 and rely solely on taste, I think it would be fascinating. You could probably identify a large majority of cigars based on #1 and if you know or research Gator at all, you could probably guess the ones you couldn't guess by simply looking. If you were blindfolded and handed a lit cigar, you would have to rely on mostly taste to discern. True you could get an idea of length and ring guage by simply handling the cigar during smoking, but you would mainly have to rely on taste and smell. Again, I'm not trying to trying to step on your toes Gator, I just thought this might be an interesting twist.
Edit to add color to Moki's quote for contrast.
