I'm getting married soon, and am trying to figure out what to smoke for that auspicious day. I want something delicious, yet rare. I have always had what I consider "special occasion" cigars, such as Opus X, DCM, Padron 26 and 64 series. But this seems like the special occasion to end all special occasions. I do have a CAO Bratallia that a BOTL here gifted me a couple of years back, the only one I've even seen, but I think I want to save that for the birth of our first child.

At any rate, any suggestions would be welcomed, and if anyone has a stick that fits the bill, please PM me as I'd be happy to buy one. Better that my money go to a BOTL than a shop or online retailer. Thanks for any input you may have.

Gettin' married, eh? What to smoke, eh?

Remember those old Bugs Bunny cartoons where the antagonist gets a painted and banded (and lit) stick of dynamite, and he goes to happily smoke it like a cigar?

Neither do I, specifically, but I could see Wile E. Coyote doing it.

Anyway, you get the picture...

Also, if you find yourself with a free hour to smoke a cigar on your wedding night, then you're doing it wrong (or, maybe, you did it very, very right...). Just sayin'... ;)

To answer your question, though, I would take my most sentimental stick (that you don't already have earmarked for a different occasion), and light it up in honor of the new life.

I also LOVE the Padron line, maduros, and I picked up a few of the Britallias a while back. I bought out what they had left because I was so excited to finally find them, then I smoked one. I was so disappointed, I gave the rest away. I'm only telling you this because if you enjoy these other cigars you might also not be impressed with the Britallia, I would hate for you to but have a backup cigar for your special occasion.

At my wedding I smoked the first 1926 #1 that I had ever bought a couple years before. It was my specail occasion cigar and it was the best cigar I ever had. I've got a BBMF that is next in line that I will smoke when I graduate.

Have enough for whoever wants to smoke.

Thanks for the heads up on the Britallia, thats food for thought. What didn't you like about it? I should have remembered that rare doesn't always mean great. I've made that mistake before.

As for having time, this will be a reception smoke, not a "wedding night" cigar, haha, and I'll have some cheaper sticks for anyone else that wants to smoke, but the trophy cigar is mine alone. =)

The wedding isn't till the end of April, but I want to get this locked down soon so that whatever I get has some time in the humi before the big day. I appreciate everyone's input.

I've no experience with weddings, but thefatguy made me think. Maybe go with something rare that you've tried before and really loved? It sure would suck to pick one you hadn't tried before and end up not liking it. Or maybe have a back up 'gar. Food for thought, not for actions!

I think Asel mike is right in that you should do some research before hand. After all, you aren't picking the food w/o tasting it first, or Her dress w/o trying out several. That's a lot of testing to find that one cigar that is just PERFECT.

You guys are still talking about cigars, right? Because that advice is certainly applicable in other areas of marriage as well. :whistling:

I say just smoke something you enjoy. It's the moments that make cigars special, not the cigars themselves.

A far a what I didn't like, it was very bland and too light. I was just disappointed, I had looked forward to smoking this fire so long, maybe my expectations were too high. Again, you might like it, but I would hate for you to not enjoy your cigar for such a special occasion.

Tell you what, James. Send me your address. I have something for your special day.

Khari, pm sent, very generous brother, let me know what I can send you in return (i.e.- cash, sticks, my first born) I'm happy to oblige. =P

Fatman, I'm tempted to smoke the Bratalia to see how it is, and track down another for said occasion. Worst case, it's great and I have to find another. It's special to me mostly because it was gifted to me by a BOTL here, back when I was a fng and it blew me away.

Upon further reflection, buy the most expensive cigar you ever considered b/c once your married, She mow has legitimate input on your cigar budget and it will never be the same. Could be the last time you can burn that kind of money w/o try to 'justify it' or hide the true cost.
I think marriage is worth it, but it does make you get more strategical with the money you want to spend on your hobbies.

On my wedding day in 2005, I smoked a Bolivar Belicoso Fino. I had some rarer, larger cigars at the time, but you may not have time to smoke a big cigar and you will be so distracted that you probably wouldn't get full enjoyment out of a once in a lifetime cigar.

Congratulations

I had a 1926 40th anniv. Padron maduro last night. WOW! Enough said.

I agree. My thought was to find a rare, high quality smoke for a rare day. On the other hand, the input in this thread makes me think that perhaps a reliable higher end smoke is the way to go. I do however trust the feedback of the brothers on this board.

I recieved this same advice from another BOTL, along with the suggestion that I enjoy the cigar I choose a few hours before, or after the wedding.

My best man and groomsmen are the same group that have "served" together for the last 3 weddings we've respectively had, and it's become a bit of a ritual for the Grooms party to step away for 45 minutes or so to enjoy a cigar. We don't hide from the reception, but we do make it clear that anyone that wants the grooms attention will have to deal with a cloud of sweet smoke. :D

The fiancée is a vet, and we're in Charleston today. I am the proud owner of a "tab" and a "permission slip" to go wild at the downtown cigar wholesaler.

Im like a kid at Christmas here, believe that.
