My wife had to work today so I made a road trip to a store I have been wanting to visit. Georgia Cigar, Tobacco and Coffee, in Newnan Georgia. It is a very nice store with a large, well stocked, humidor.
I bought a ten cigar sampler of some brands I am familiar with, RyJ, La Gloria Cubano and AF, and a few "new to me" brands. Mostly all Robustos or Rothschilds.
Winter finally hit Georgia this week and it's been too cold to enjoy smoking after work. When I got home this afternoon the sun was shining and it had warmed up to about 60 degrees. I pulled a chair up to a south facing brick wall and got a pretty good imitation of summer.
First off I smoked a Hemingway Short Story, my first one, It was a tasty smoke but not worth the $5 price to me. Too many other $3-5 Robustos I like as well if not better.
Next was a RyJ Robusto, one of my favorite smokes and an example of what I meant previously, about the same price as the SS but a lot more smoke.
Finally I had my first Juan Lopez. The clerk had noticed me eyeing the Padron '26 and '64. He suggested the Juan Lopez as an alternative Nicaraguan puro. It was a pretty cigar with a reddish brown wrapper and box press.
I read some of the reviews here just now on this cigar and most were not particularly favorable. I thought it was one of the better cigars I have smoked. It had a lot of spicy/peppery flavor and the burn and draw was perfect. If I had of bought two I would lit the second one as soon as I finished the first. Strangely this store's price was slightly less for a single than JRs box price. Most of the other sticks I bought had a fairly hefty mark up. I may have to run back up there and pick up a box.
If the weather holds I think I will smoke the Ashton VSG and the Punch Rare Corojo tommorow.
