Small Keg Coolers?

Anyone have any experience with the countertop mini-keg coolers? I know Heineken makes a 5 liter model which is about the right form factor, but the wrong brew for my taste. Also heard Anheiser Busch makes a 1/6 barrel model. Ideally I'd like to be able to not be locked into a single brand and still be able to draw a true draught instead of bottles or 'gravity kegs' taking up room in the fridge...

I've got a Haier brand keg fridge. It's the same size as a regular undercounter fridge or wine cabinet and will hold up to a 16 gallon keg, however I only purchase 1/6th barrels since it would take me months to finish 16 gallons of beer.

Most major department store/appliance dealers sell them, such as Best Buy or Sears. Also you can check online, just do a google search for Keg Fridges and you'll come up with places like this.

I converted a fridge into a two product kegerator. www.beveragefactory.com has the stuff. I use it for homebrew but right now it has a 1/4 of Miller's Lite, which is one of the only tall 1/4 and a 5 gallon of shipyard summer ale. Converting a fridge is simple and takes about 20 min. start to finish.

I'll add that the model I have would hold two 1/6th barrels if you wanted to add a dual tap tower to the top. If I start home brewing again I'll be kegging the beer and keep one home brew and one store bought on tap.

There are plenty of micro brew choices available in 1/6 barrel "sixtel" keg sizes. You can easily switch out or modify the tower of a direct draw kegerator to accommodate more than one tap. I swapped out the single faucet tower of my Beverage Air BM23 for a custom built 3-faucet tower. My kegerator can hold up to four 5 gallon "cornelius" kegs.

Keep in mind the various couplings you'll need for different brands and keg sizes.

Nice home built "jockey box" depicted. I don't think that's what he's looking for at the moment though. Unless he only likes his beer while on the go. :D

Good gosh, Raymond. You sound like a man who knows his keg beer. :)

Thanks for the leads... The more I think about it, I may try and build my own...I like a challenge and getting something 'just the way I want it' more than convience and warranty of a store-bought unit. Looks like I can source much of the items from www.beveragefactory.com .

Thanks again!

It's a snap. Just get the directions ahead of time so you can budget in the two different size circular saws you will need. I think the two will run you around 30 to 40 bucks.

Also, when first connecting the hoses, soak them in hot, not boiling, water to soften them up and remember to get the faucet wrench.
