This little smoke has been in the humi for about a year now, gift of a member of this board. If I'd known the day I got it what I know tonight, I would have been showering him with thanks. As it is, any of you that may have sent me this can accept my deepest gratitude.
Yeah, I know, it's only a cigar. Only sometimes a cigar is much more than that. After the second puff, I knew I had something special; great things can come in small packages.
Rather than describe/review it, I'd like to share some thoughts I had while lingering over it. First, the gratitude mentioned. Then, a feeling of warmth for all the members of this board I've come to know, well or little, over the past months. Some have yelled at me, some have made me laugh, others have taught me a great deal about this hobby, and others have reassured me in times of doubt. Or rather, not hobby but art. Because an appreciation of a fine cigar is no less wonderful than being able to appreciate art, fine cooking, good wine and liquor.
Then I found myself thinking about the newbie packages that I'll be getting together soon. How enjoyable it is to be able to introduce someone to new tastes and aromas, new shapes and brands, to share some of the small knowledge I now have of these rolled up leaves that become nearly magical with time.
How great to be young and newly involved with this fascinating subject! To have years ahead of you to learn and appreciate, to be astonished and disgusted, to have the opportunity to share what you learn with others. And to enjoy the fellowship of this remarkable group of people who epitomize sharing and generosity.
I'll likely not ever meet any of you in person. But I wanted to take the time to tell you how much being a member of CP has meant to me.
