Hey Guys,
I'm still in the process of modifying my humi and i'm having trouble finding odourless silicone. Is there such thing as odourless silicone.......

Damn, I thought this thread was about breasts.

Doc.

i belive you need to use food grade silicone, i remember someone talking about that here a while back.

If I'm not mistaken, I belive the odorless calk I've see was latex based....?? I'll pay closer attention at the home store next time I'm there.

There is odorless but not that you can buy at Home Depot. All the RTV or Room Temperature Vulcanizing (curing) release acetic acid during the moisture catalyzed cure.

However, give it enough time and all the volatile acetic acid will dissipate.

FYI, platinum-cured silicone is used in industries such as pharamceutical manufacturing which require low contamination.

Who would carry this special silicone? Hold your horses guys and don't say a doctor.

I believe there are modeling hobbyist sites that sell this. I may be wrong. The platinum catalyst is horribly expensive and IIRC, a pint jar cost something like $450 several years ago.

GI-1000 mold making catalyzed silicon is what you're looking for. Ginsing is right on all counts but one - its expensive, but not quite that expensive.

Besides being virtually odorless, it has a very low surface tension which makes it ideal for fine mold making for use with resin casting. Tell me more on what you have in mind. Its odorless, but it doesn't exactly squeeze out like toothpaste. You could pour it out, then cut gaskets with it, but forget just applying it to your mating surfaces.

I can spare an ounce or two if you'd like to try.

Null,

I used platinum catalyst solution that cost that much and it was mixed with resin which was much less expensive. Sorry, it had been a few years. :p

Guys,
I have used food grade silicon in my old smoker before. Was high heat, odorless and tasteless (didn't try that tho) and it worked well... I had to seal a sizeable crack.

I do no remember where I got it, but I'll do some looking - I know I got it locally.

I need this silicone to bond and seal. I am installing a single round recepticle on the back side of my humi cabinet. I don't want to use regular silicone cause the odour will ruin my cigar's.
