Short Story Maduro?

Are the Fuentes shipping new natural Short Stories with the new band? Here's why I ask. I was in Ohio over the weekend and picked up a box of what was sold to me as the Short Story Maduro. They had a box of regular short stories right beside it and they were lighter in color and still had the old flat gold band. As I readied some for shipping and placed the rest in my Vino, I noticed that they weren't nearly as dark as my WOAMS, with the exception of one. They weren't as light as my regular hemingways, but the color of the one SG wrapped hemingway in my collection. Given their limited availability, and their lighter wrapper color, I wanted to make absolutely sure.

Thoughts? Insight? Input? ???

I've seen quite a few WOAMs that I thought were naturals, while some were pitch black. Smoke some, you should still be able to taste the difference.

Hate to get off topic, but....

BigMan noticed you have an OU tag. I am an OU alumni. Nice to see another person on here with Athens in their blood.
Go Bobcats!

Great picture BTW, I was at that game and saw it transpire in person. Absolutely hilarious.

Julius can you post up a pic? I personally have not seen any naturals with the new bands on them, and a few of the maduros in the box at my local looked really light to me as well.

My WOAMS are much darker than the naturals...and the same is true with the SS maduros that I have...

Pic helpful. I would like to see the newer bands on them as I have a bunch of the older WOAM's and they are dark.

The Short Story Maduros I saw at the trade show were very dark. I've definitely seen other Hemingway Maduros with light wrappers on them, especially Work of Arts, but if the Short Story Maduros look anything like the ones at the show they should be super dark. Also, the Fuente's have started shipping cigars with their new 100th Anniversary bands on them. I've opened a few boxes of Fuente Hemingway and they've all had the new bands on the (including the Short Story Naturals) I believe the Short Story Maduros should have the new bands. The boxes of Short Story Maduros should have a blue "Maduro" sticker on the side of them. Did the Short Story Maduros you picked up have the new Fuente bands on them?

Eric

These are not the cigars in question. I just thought I would throw up a comparison of some recent release maduros with some 2yo naturals.

I'll post some pics when I get home. But Eric, no there is no sticker. Crap-o.

Looks like I fell for the 'ol banana in the tailpipe.

Let me make sure I got this right.

They had a box of older Short Story Naturals next a box of new Short Story Maduros (alleged) that had the newer bands. The SSM appeared to be darker in color and someone at the shop said they were in fact SSM and you took them at their word.

You suspected something was amiss when you put them next to other Hemingway Maduros in your possession. The box you have doesnot have the blue Maduro label.

That is pretty shady on their part, but give them a chance to fix it. If the shop is in NE Ohio let me know if I can help.

I was in one of my local shops today and they had a box of Short Story Maduro stocked right above a box of Short Story Naturals. The blue maduro sticker is shown on the side of the top box. There was no such sticker on the other box. See below:

The maduro was clearly darker than the natural but the bands on both were the new style of band. I can say with certainty that the SSM that are in this shop are not as dark as the ones that I was able to pick up for myself a couple of weeks ago. I do not have pictures available of those right now though. I can also say with certainty that I have zero doubt of the authenticity of these SSM. See below:

If the shop in question was in SW Ohio then let me know and I may be able to help you out.

These cigars are legit, they are identical to the ones we got here at the Outlaw.
All the Hemingways and Don Carlos have the new gold bands.
The difference in the actual darkness of the wrapper can vary from box to box.
In the Hemingway Line there is no "Natural" label on the side of the box, which if there were, it would be red. Only Hemingway Maduros have Blue "Maduro" stickers on them.

On the spot naturally. I had my full box land today. Unfortunately, they haven't impressed me to much. The one I smoked had a channel that was about half the cigar. Once I was past that spot, it started to get better. I did notice it picked up in strength. :D

Breedy, you have it correct. The shop was in Columbus. The info about the blue sticker was the nail in the coffin. I'll see what they say tomorrow about returning them, but I'm not going to bet on it.

Thanks guys for the info. Fool me once...

Damn that sucks. Hopefully the shop takes care of this.
