Should I need to "season" a cooler for any period of time, or since it's plastic and shouldn't absorb anything I should be ok to just transfer my cigars and beads directly in there and seal it up?

I'll be taking everything out of the humidor so the movers can take that, then my cigars are coming with in the car for the drive out to Colorado, via a cooler. I used to only use the coolidor, but I don't remember what process I had gone through to get it set up.

If you are transferring from your humi only, and not adding any new boxes or smokes then I would think you will be fine. If you have the extra beads, I would put them in the cooler a day or so before, so that the air is at the right RH when you add your stash.

You shouldn't need to season it, Andy. I'd just make sure to seal it up tight. How long is it going to be on the road? I ask because of the heat issue. It can get mighty hot in a car while traveling.

Good luck on the move!

I would think you're ok, so long as you stop by in Denver for an inspection!

Andy,

I added empty boxes to mine that had been sitting in my basement. I also added a pound of beads at the same time. I figured getting the cedar boxes back to 65% would provide a buffer when adding my singles and full boxes.

Please remember to send your addy once your settled in...I have a house-warming present for you!

If the cooler is going to be mostly full I'd say your probably fine, just transfer everything in your humidor to the cooler.

If you are going to have much empty space I would consider putting in some empty boxes or cedar to act as a buffer. If you do this I would definitely season the cooler+ empty boxes for a little while to make sure they don't wind up drying out your stash.

Also, if they are only going to be in there for a day or so and your not going to be raiding the cooler that much you probably don't even need the cedar and boxes just make sure the cooler has a good seal and enough beads.
