On a Scuba board that I visit I noticed a couple interesting features that I thought I'd share:
First, there was a little notice at the top of the page when I logged on for the first time in a long while that let me know I hadn't been very active lately and that I should get involved and post something, join a conversation or post a review.
Second was a helpful tool when I started a new topic, once I had my topic title entered there was a button just next to it that asked, "Has this been asked before?". When I clicked that button it gave me a whole page full of threads with similar titles to the one I was about to start. That seemed like a nice way to encourage folks check out older threads and not bring on the wrath of the "Use the search function" police.
