Sean Avery - Likely to become a Ranger again - unbelieveable

So Sean Avery is known to have a big mouth. After brushing his teeth he has a habit of rinsing with Dessonex Foot Powder.

I hear on a local sports radio channel that the Rangers are serious about giving him another chance if Dallas puts him on Call Up Waivers.

Who would want to take a chance on 'Sloppy Seconds'?

I don't follow hockey and understand that this guy is pretty much a douche on and off the ice...but I can't believe how strongly the NHL/fans etc. reacted to the sloppy seconds comment. While I would have decked the guy if he said it about my girl I thought it was kinda funny.

I don't follow hockey too closely either, but by most accounts here in the DFW area, he's locker room poison. Even though the Stars have been beat up pretty bad with injuries lately, they seem to be playing with a lot more cohesiveness since his departure.

Agreed about his comment that created such a stir but what was amazing in the press here is that not one Stars player said one thing about him that was positive. Nobody tried to defend him, not even the cursory 'let's just get this behind us' type of remark. Nothing. Most of the comments were more like 'Now that he's out of here....'.

His absence has no doubt been a positive for Dallas.

Sean Avery was cancer to the Stars. With Avery in the lineup we had 8 wins and 15 losses. Over the next 23 game stretch following Avery's suspension we had 13 wins and 10 losses. An instant turn around once the cancer was removed. I don't think he should've gotten suspended for what he said, but I was glad to see him get kicked off of our team.

"Sean Avery has no honour" - Don Cherry, after Avery's antics against Brodeur last year.

The most-despised person in hockey (and probably the most-despised non-criminal in Canada) is on re-entry waivers as of today. He's a good hockey player who just happens to be a jerk with zero integrity. The Rangers will probably pick him up - he sells tickets. Some time later, I suspect that Avery will end up hospitalized (again), and nobody will have any idea how he got injured (again) :whistling:. Break the code, and you'll get broken.

Despite all the antics, you gotta think the NHL is glad if he comes back it'll be in one of the main, and perhaps most important, US hockey market. He'll certainly gain a little more press, at least for a little while, from the US media if he's back in NYC.

I really like watching him play. Yes he is a real nu-sense: Why else would they institute a rule just because of him. I was a little bumbed when he left the KINGS, but do not want him back. Still would like to see him back in the coolest game on earth though.

Bettman was probably instrumental in convincing NY to bring him back (being sarcastic, but I wouldn't rule it out.) With the NBA's ratings dropping quickly Bettman and the NHL want as much press as they can get and unfortunately Avery=Press. Hopefully his return wont be a disgrace to the NHL but history has a way of repeating itself.

Never thought of the marketing appeal. No doubt I made an effort to watch when Avery was on the tube just to see who would take a run at him or for him to do something off the chart. The thing is this guy is so unpredictable that you can't even count on him to wait for the television camera's to be on. He pulled a stunt during warm up at a Leaf's game. Apparently (and it was never fully confirmed that I know of) he made some over the top comment to or about Rob Blake who had been diagnosed with his cancer. I remember watching Darcy Tucker react on the ice at that moment. His head snapped around and the look on his face was one of anger and disbelief.

My guess is that Avery will be dumbed down and play more and talk less, kind of a unik(sp?). Then again, he is unpredictable...

FYI... Jason Blake was diagnosed with cancer, not Rob Blake... Don't hate the player, hate the game :)

Avery is just the locker room shake up that the sissy boy Rangers need. I love them to death and watch every game, but they need some tough love to get their rears in gear.

That being said, Avery got the short end of the stick from the NHL...absolutely ridiculous and I'm happy that he's coming home to the only team that has appreciated him. Torts, even though he dislikes him, will keep him in line and I think everything will be peachy.

On an aside, Vorros and Reitz have both been placed on waivers....let the trade gates open.

Well, the Rangers aren't playing Calgary or Dallas for the rest of the regular season, so there is hope. OTOH, they do play NJ IIRC.

I guess now we can all see how well anger management courses work on him. He'll be a bargain for the Rangers if he 'gets it' now.

On a related note, the CBC showed a news documentary on 'The Code' last week. Watch it here, along with extra interviews, etc.

edit: extra contraction excised.

Being a Kings fan, I'm watching with morbid curiosity. I will say that I don't expect great things to come of his return. How Sather is still a GM is a great mystery. Apparently the lockout didn't teach the Rangers anything about paying top dollar for free agents.

Having someone on the ice to run his mouth aint gonna get the puck in the net.

True, but what it does do unfortunately is it distracts the players of the opposing team to a point. Now some of the focus of a few of the players in the league will be to shut Avery up and in turn it COULD open up opportunities for other Ranger's players. Dallas has a somewhat lower key (though seemingly hated just as much) version of Avery in Ott. The difference with Ott is that he pesters people to win the game, not to piss them off, now if he pisses them off in the process its a win win. I like Ott very much because of how hard he plays the game and the dedication he shows to his team mates. Hopefully Avery will "get it" and it'll work out, but for some reason I just don't see it happening. I guess we'll see though.

Craig,
Thanks for the link to the code. I really enjoyed it.

He is a different person now, rehabilitated from all the recent hits that he has been taking. The amazing thing is that he is back and i think even better than before. People can say he is a douche but if you were sean avery what would you do? Collect expensive hand bags maybe , hey whatever floats your boat and gets you going.
