I have been looking for decent priced robustos, so tonight's choice was the Savinelli Special Selection 2004, in the robusto size.
All of the Special Selections have torpedo heads, and this one is 5 x 52.
The wrapper was nice and chocolately colored, but not too oily. Veins were decent, and the prelight smell was somewhat weak, but good. The wrapper is Nicaraguan, but I do not remember where the binder and filler are from. I believe Savinelli is another Fuente family cigar, so I had good expectations for this one, as I have enjoyed everything so far from Fuente that I have tried.
Lighting was perfect, and the burn was perfect from start to finish, with no runs or lopsidedness. Despite the company's description of being medium to full-bodied, I did not find it to be so. It was rather mild, but still tasty. The ash was very light grey, and did not fall off until about 3 inches into the smoke.
As I have been burning myself out on expensive cigars (I am a college student, but wanted to try great cigars first to give myself a good basis for comparison), this is a great cigar based on cost. I would give it an 87 based on the rating scale.
