After a day of working around the house, my mate and I sat out on the front porch with a glass of Black Maple Hill 14 YO bourbon and a Sancho Panza Belicoso.
Sancho Panza Belicoso
This was a very nice looking cigar, with a medium-brown wrapper and a slight box-press. There was only one noticable vein and no appreciable seams on the wrapper. The pre-light nose was of mild earth, with wood and a bit of floral as well. The pre-light draw was firm, but not tight. The appearance of this cigar really appealed to me.
Upon lighting, the draw opened up nicely, allowing easy smoking and enjoyment. The smoke production was not huge, but the smoke was of a rich consistency that clung in the still evening air like thick clouds. The burn was dead even throughout the smoke, never requiring a touch-up or any attention at all. The smoke was cool throughout, all the way down to a nub. The ash was light gray and very firm. In fact, this was a two ash cigar, not bad for a stick measuring 5 1/2 inches long. This cigar had absolutely top-notch construction.
The Wow in the title of my post comes from the taste of this medium-bodied cigar. The thick smoke started with rich wood flavors that quickly developed a toasty note. There was a hint of coffee, but it was more of an afterthought than a primary figure in the flavor. After about 1/4 to 1/2 inch, the toastiness increased and the cigar developed a very nutty profile. For a couple of minutes, I swore that I was tasting roasted almonds. Near the half-way mark, the cigar settled into a creaminess that held wonderful touches of nuts, coffee, spice, and toasted flavors. I finished as well as it began, tickling the tastebuds and delighting the olfactory senses. Absolutely wonderful cigar.
I might have just found a new best-cigar-friend. I have to give this little belicoso my highest endorsement, an A+.
