VITALS

Drink: Diet Cherry Coke

Maybe it's because i smoked three cigars last night... causing my tongue to be a little scorched. I wanted a nice little "Stress-reliever" to enjoy when i got home from work today. I saw this small little guy in my humidor and decided that his time was about to expire.

Prelit draw was zesty, i could really feel it in my nostrils. There was a flaw (looked like a little veiny nub that stuck out of the wrapper) near the head which ended up making the smoke a little less enjoyable through the experience because it eventually pushed through the wrapper and i had to deepthroat the cigar to get a hefty full draw.

The cigar now exhibits (12 minutes after the fact) the Isom aftertaste that i am accustomed to but did not get that mild and distinct CC aftertaste after a draw that i am used to with many of the other CC brands.

The cigar was very one directional. I am not against a cigar being one directional... but i expected a little more complexity. I usually find this "complexity" with many CC's that i smoke.

the draw started out very tough, but eventually loosened up about halfway in, the burn was as even as i usually get with a CC but not perfect.

As the body of the cigar got softer i noticed a harder/denser mass near the head of the cigar which is probably the culprit of the tight draw. i smushed the head up a little bit to loosen up the draw and that fixed the problem for the most part.

The cigar finished up very bold-like but left something to be desired. I guess i feel that the "twang" wasn't there.

Closing thoughts:

The cigar was decent. It had a good medium flavor and was tasty once the draw loosened up. The zest prelit draw was a bit decieving.

Q: Would i go out of my way to buy a box?
A: No

Q: Would i gladly smoke another given the chance?
A: Yes

Thanks for reading,

What was the box date on these? I'm a HUGE fan of these, and I'm currently working on a box from April 08. Let's just say they are smoking fantastic. They are very, very rich and are one of my favorite sizes.

Thanks for the review. Better luck on the next stick.

I'm also smoking from the same box code and they are so so good. Too bad I only have 4 left. :(

wish I had a straight answer for you on the box code. The cigar was a gift.

I will try one again some day, I'm a fair guy.

I had one of these on Saturday and found it to be the same as you did. OK but not great. My draw problems were a little worse than what you described, it took until about the last third to losen up by then I've usually run out of patience.

These are a fantastic little smoke.
With a few years on them they are rich, smooth and tasty.

Sound like your's needed a little more time. (I've had that happen as well.)

Although it could just be not to your taste.

I'm a bag fan of the el principes. One smoke that I don't have to plan too much for since they are usually great ROTT or a couple weeks of rest (these are painful weeks too) but I guess I have one question: How do they age? I can never keep these around long enough to find out..

You always hear about RASS, Monte #2s, PLPCs, and a couple other smokes aging really well.. I haven't heard much on the SCdLH El Principe..

Anyone have any insight?

^^ i can say that a PLPC tastes (to me) like what i remember a quintessential cuban to taste like.

Very complex, lots of twang!

I've not smoked an awful lot of San Cristobal - the few I've had seemed to me to be the milder side, but interestingly complex.

What are your thoughts on how these line up with some of the other ISOM PC's - like the Boli PC, Q D'O, Cuaba Divinos, Sancho Panza Bachilleres? I'm curious if you got the same kind of "one-dimension" taste with others, or if they were more "quintessential" cuban vs. the El Principe. Maybe your thoughts on how you feel they may contrast with the San Cristobal.

And what are your thoughts about how El Principe matches up against other vitolas - particularly within the San Cristobal line?
