This is as close as I have come.

This is a pretty good smoke, well made, nice burn & construction. The ash was a bit flakey but other than that not a bad smoke.

The first few pulls had that same finish that I am not fond of, but it quickly went away. It had a tight draw that fixed itself within the first inch and went on to be a fine little smoke.

I know this is a short crappy review, but thats what I am good at

Hey Tim,

I smoked one of these recently and I thought it was sort of crappy. Sort of an ashy, slightly sweet flavor but mostly hot air. Like you, I really haven't found too many interesting mid-range maduros. The Mayorga and Sancho Panza Double Maduro are decent for their modest prices. Never been a fan of the Ashton Aged Maduros.

El Rey Del Mundo was a nice smoke. A guy at the local B&M recommended it. Not sure the size but it came in tissue paper. Medium bodied but good flavor. I agree though, maddies are usually better on the full side IMHO. I think a box is like $60-70. Maybe check them out.

Nick,

That was probably the Robusto Larga. If it was big and thick, that's the one. Good smoke and thanks for the reminder.

Omar Ortiz Toro is a great smoke for about $5. It has an extremely dark wrapper, but I don't know if it's considered a maduro.

I've NEVER been huge on maddies and am yet to be blown away by one (and I've had some of the supposed "good" ones like the MAXX, etc. (which wasn't BAD fwiw)) and I think the best I've run into so far was the one I had tonight. I gotta say I truely enjoyed this little sucker... it's got a long name though:
La Gloria Cubana Reserva Figurado Regalias Maduro. Great winter smoke with it's size too!

Wilkey-

Yeah that's it. Big ring guage but not to big, and about 5-5.5 in length. Good finish, kind of sweet, any occasion smoke.

I'm a self-professed maduro whore. I personally think LGC makes some of the best maduro smokes around. I don't know if it's the wrapper or the blend, but there's something about the flavor profile that appeals to me. I really like the Reserva Figurado line, but they can be a little pricey and hard-to-find. If you're still in the market for an everyday, don't-break-the-bank maduro, try the LGC Serie R (I like the #4 and #5), or the Rocky Patel "The Edge" (I prefer the Missile for a quick smoke). Both are in the $5-$6 range, depending on where you buy them.

I just had one of these SLR Series G Maduro's a few nights back. I thought it was a very good smoke if you could get them for a good deal. It was slightly sweet with a medium body. I had a few burn issues but overall I thought it was good.

I had some of these quite a while back and didn't care for them at all.

As someone else stated, the Edge maddies are excellent. Likewise, the LGC Serie R and, particularly, their Wavell maddies are outstanding and those Wavell maddies are pretty damn hard to beat.

Of course, these are all *relatively* in the same price point...you get onwards and upwards in price and the options become oh-so wonderful.

Anejo #46 I had today was pretty good. Also, the 601 Green label Corona is a winner!

Punch Double Maduro Rothschild. Better then the SLR IMO.

Punch Double Maduro Rothschild. Better then the SLR IMO.

I second that, great little smoke. I also enjoy the Partagas Black Classico, a little stronger than the Punch but has a great taste.
