well, it's about time I tried this! I picked this aged ISOM little honey up in a pass this fall, and after moving everything over to my new humidor, I saw it and thought it'd be a good smoke today.

Saint Louis Rey Regios (1998)
The look of this cigar was awesome... it just looked 7 years old! the construction was good, and it smelled w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l. A perfect smoke for my daily walk in the woods with the pups.

The snow was falling (FINALLY!) and I was finished with the morons out shopping (the wife forgot some Christmas Dinner items  ) After parking, and getting the pups outta my truck, I clipped this sucker and took a deep breath on it. It smelled so damn good! Too bad there was no cellophane to be heavily yellowed....

Anyways, I took a draw- and was disappointed. It seemed rather tight on the draw. I pinched it around a little, and from the foot to the halfway mark it was nice- pliable yet firm. However, from the cap to about an inch in was very firm and tight. But, I figured it would loosen with each draw and the cooresponding heat.

The foot toasted up great, and nice even burn was started. First draw confirmed my suspicions... the draw was tight. I got just a little smoke. The taste was quite muted, yet pleasant and very, very smooth. I've never had a cigar that was 7 years old, so it's a new expierence for me.

Sadly, the draw never loosened up. I tried rolling the end in my fingers to 'break it loose' but it did not help. Besides that, it was a very nice smoke, but there was nothing 'standout' about the flavor. I do really like the SLR Serie A, but have never tried the Regios. It seemed like a very mild smoke, and the flavor was not like the standout taste of the Serie A- I really like the 'citrusy' taste of it. But, the Regios was nice, just not great.

Smoke Volume was low, due to the tight draw
Ash was clean, and tight.
Burn was even and flawless

I'd be curious to try a fresh Regios to compare, but with the SLR Serie A in my humi, I'm not too worried about it

I'd have to say this cigar was a C+/B- for me... maybe a 70/75 out of 100? I like a stronger cigar, both is 'power' and in taste. I'd pass this up in favor of it's brother the SLR Serie A.

but it's still good...
Merry Christmas all

Hi Swissy,

Sorry to hear about your tight draw. I can't comment on whether the flavor you got was indicative of the SLR Regio but in my experience, things can change, sometimes dramatically once the draw opens up.

I've been known to cut off an inch from the head just to get at the "good parts." I'm ruthless with plugged cigars.

Thanks for giving it the old college try.
