I've been enjoying 10 Cane and most recently Havana Club 7 anos. What other good rums do you guys recommend?

HC7 is my favorite, but haven't had it for a few years. In order to get the wife to drink with me, I've been buying Sailor Jerrys. Yes, it's a spiced rum, but I'd rather mix 2 drinks then 1 :whistling:

Sailor Jerry's is a lot better than Captain Morgan's, I'll give it that much.

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera is probably the best sippin' rum I've ever had. Zaya is like candy in a glass if you like it sweeter than that, Ron Pampero Anniversario (in the little leather bag) is more molasses and char if you like it less sweet.

Ron Matusalem Espiritu de Cuba is another great one.

Barbancourt 15 if you like turpentine.

I heard how wonderful it was, how all the experts say it is one of the very best. A very severely flared out glass helps it breath, which it really needs.
But, I swear, it tastes more like turp or mineral spirits than a sugar based drink.

I love Barbancourt 15. Have you tried the 5 star (aged 8 years)? Barbancourt is not what some typically think of when they think "rum." It is more closely related to an agricole type rum (or rhum) from Martinique. It's distillation process lends some cognac like qualities.

That being said, I enjoy both Zacapa and Zaya, however, their overall sweetness means I can't drink them too often. I've been trying El Dorado 12 YO and 15 YO. The 12 YO is sweeter, but both are great. I recommend both of them.

Appleton 12 year old Estate Extra

humm, I'll have to add this to my 'buy' list

I always keep a bottle of Old Monk Rum. It is made in India, aged 7 years, and can be found from anywhere between 10 and 20 a btl. I really like it for an inexpensive rum.

Old Monk from the MadMonk. Makes sense to me. Which Abby do they make it at?

Picked up a couple bottles of rum last week to sample, Zafra 21 year and Cruzan Single Barrel Estate. The jury is still out on the Zafra, but the Cruzan has all the makings of a good sipper. Another good one is Plantation 20th Anniversary, that and Zacapa 23 are the best rums I've had.

I always have a bottle of this on hand, too. Very interesting rum, I find the taste has more bourbon notes than rum.

You know, You're right. I've never made the connection until I read this. Last bottle I bought, I paid 9.50. I think it is 14.50 now at my local.

About a year ago I was gifted a bottle of Mt. Gay 1703, just delightfully smooth. I have never seen it on the shelf, but was told it could be special ordered.

My "go to" summer beverage is (same brand) Eclipse, tonic and lime. Can't go wrong with that.

Pyrat XO is a sweeter rum with hints of orange to it, not bad as a sipper, and I would also second the Ron Pampero Aniversario. When I was in Antigua a couple of weeks ago I picked up a local rum, English Harbour 5 Year, which has turned out to be really good, especially considering the $16 price tag it came with.
