First off, please excuse the fuzzy pics, we were sitting by the fire Saturday night when I took these, and the camera didn't like the dark
I couldn't find too much info on these. I recently participated in the box split with a few BOTL on here , and I just couldn't wait any longer to try one
Rocky Patel Olde World Reserve Corojo
Size: Torpedo 5.00 x 54
Wrapper: Corojo
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Length of smoke: 90 mins
Last meal eaten: Steak & shrimp
Pre light inspection found it to have great construction, no large veins or soft spots. I then toasted it with my Vector Mega-pump, and I was off!!
It started off with a pretty good burn, but not a lot of smoke. The draw was just a tad loose. There was a little flaking of the ash, but it held firm. No notable flavors or spice coming through, just a good, but mild tobacco flavor, with a short finish.
The ash finally dropped off around the midway point, and it started to burn a little uneven, but this is probably due to lack of rest time. I had to touch it up twice. Also, just started to get a hint of leather at this point.
Coming into the home stretch now! The burn evened out again, ash holding on tight, with a little flakyness. The volume of smoke increased at this point, and in between gusts of wind, I was able to blow a few smoke rings.
The overall impression, for me, was good! It was one of the best "just straight tobacco flavor" cigars that I ever had. I wasn't busy trying to wrack my brain figuring out how to describe the taste for once. I just sat back and enjoyed it. It was mild, but IMO I think it would make an excellent breakfast smoke.
I did have a Maduro OWR toro last week at the monthly DE/MD Herf, and WAS NOT impressed. The draw was waaaaay too loose, and it had a HUGE soft spot near the head, that was almost 2" long!! It tasted like crap. Hopefully the Maduro torps will fare better.
Oh, and the color on my finger in the pics came from the fire pit, not off the cigar.
