I've seen a quite a few posts recommending this stuff on this and other boards. This week while walking through a liquor store near my house I spied a couple of bottles on the top shelf. At $38, it's price was at the low end of what I might expect to pay for a single malt Scotch, so I decided to pick it up for my father, who enjoys rum a lot more than I. I took it over to his house this evening and poured a little bit for each of us. I must say that to these unrefined taste buds, this stuff is fantastic. I left the house and returned to the liquor store to pick up a bottle for my own bar. Who else has tried this rum?

certainly good stuff. I cannot get it locally but due to some helpful BOTL I have a couple of bottles. And when I run out, I'll look for more... a must have in my cabinet as far as I'm concerned.

Good for straight sipping to (GASP!) making mojitos - and at that price, I will (and do) mix with it.

I gotta head to the liquor store tomorrow I think. They had one bottle of Zaya rum listed in their system, but we couldn't find it on the shelf. I left and they called later that evening and said they'd found it. Frickin 40 minute drive? Nah. I'm hoping they still have it. I'll check and see if they have some of the RZ...but highly doubt it as they didn't have much of a selection. The pitfalls of small towns.....

Greg,
Do you ever go to Frugal MacDoogal in the Ft. Mill area?

I was mapping your location relative to Frugal MacDoogal and I noticed you don't live far from Kershaw. HBS and I have been talking about meeting up for a track day and I mentioned Carolina Motorsports Park. If I can talk him into it, are you available for a day of motorcycles, BBQ, and cigars? I'll bring you up a bottle of the Ron Z if you can't get ahold of it.

Now to see if I can find some good trail riding in that area...

Jim,

Anytime you need a refill just lmk, unfortunately no mas of the full basket weave bottles though :( . They have a new presentation just one small band of straw. Still great, and dare I say it is right up there with the HC . I agree it is must for any rum lover.

I still have not tapped that yet... that will be a sipper bottle only! I'm thinking this summer... a few BOTL visiting... fishing on the open ocean... great cigars... oh yeah!

Oh... and thanks khari! I just had to go and make mojitos tonight! :D

RZ 23 is readily available here in CA. Around $35 plus state sales tax. Just a few months ago, Zaya was on sale for $20 a bottle. If either go on sale again, I can let you know. Or if you just want a bottle, I can pick it up for you.

Nice price kiwi! I love RZ23 but I can't find it locally for less than $50. I get it online for $33 plus shipping. I bought a bottle of Zaya for $40 at my local and agree that it is good but the Zacapa is better IMO.

This is an excellent sipping rum that I plan to have stocked at all times.

The only price I've seen it locally is at $50. I don't have much liquor experience, but I thought it was a great sipping rum. I got a little carried away the first time a tried it. I drank half the bottle. Each drink was better than the last.

Good stuff Khari. I like it with about four to five ice cubes in it. Seems to bring out the caramel/molasses notes to me a little more.

X2. That's how I drink it.

I'm drinking that and Sailor Jerry's right now.

Lots of good words on the Ron Zacapa if you search. Seriously good stuff.

That would be great Chico! From the sounds of it, that RZ 23 would be the ticket! If ya find it at a nice price, let me know...

I don't like the Zaya as much Greg....Too sweet for my taste. Many others that I know seem to agree.

Good lord I thought I was the only one alive that liked vanilla Pepsi!!
