I decided to head out on the patio tonight since it was an unusually cool 72 degree July evening. I enjoyed this with a glass of water, and the Royals game on the radio.

The construction on this cigar was good, with only one minor vein in the wrapper. Pre light draw was medium-tight, but upon lighting it actually pumped out a decent amount of smoke. It burned straight the entire time with an unattractive dark grey ash that resembled a stack of dimes as it was burning. The first third of this cigar had a very dry, cedary taste with a slight peppery undertone. It was like the flavor you get from cayenne pepper, it wasn't a strong flavor but you got the spicy tingle on your tongue. In the second third this cigar mellowed out considerably, and got a slight grassy taste. In the last third it picked up the peppery flavor again until there was about an inch left, and then it developed a taste I can only discribe as funky, so I put it down. This cigar stayed nice and mellow throughout, and was medium in strength. I don't know that I would search out this cigar again, but I wouldn't turn it down if it was offered to me.

The one odd thing about this cigar is that as I smoked it, it left my mouth with a very dry taste. I don't know that I've experienced that as intensely before as I did with this cigar.

Nice review.

I'm sure with some down time it will approve.

Thanks for the nice review Brent. I got one of these not too long ago from a fine botl. I've been looking for an excuse to torch it. I think because tomorrow is Sunday is good enough. ;)

Thanks for the great review! These cigars look awfully tasty, but I guess looks can be deceiving.

It was nice outside last night, and the Royals even won. That was an exciting finish. I had the game on the TV inside as I enjoyed an Aurora Barrel Aged on the porch. Nice flavor on the Aurora, but the draw and burn were disappointing, even after a month in low 60s RH.

Nice review. One of my faves. Btw, any idea of the age on this bad boy? I also experienced the same 'grassy' note on some youngn's but a few years seems to get rid of it nicely.

I don't know the age on it. I know I've had it for 4-5 months, and it was hitchhiker from a buy I did. I didn't go back to the botl that sent it to me for information on it.

Just to clarify my comment in the review. I thought this was a good cigar, just not one that blew me away. I would absolutely smoke it again, I just wouldn't put out much effort to hunt them down.

These run about $80 per box, so they are definately in the econimical ISOM category. My wife brought me one back from Venezuela last summer and after 8 months lost at the bottom of my desktop I gave it the torch. It really blew my mind, especially since I knew how cheap it was. So, I bought a box. After smoking a few, I'm convinced that the one my wife brought me must have had some age on it, probably lost in the back of a hotel lobby humidor in Caracas or something. I will add this though, the best part of this cigar (IMHO) is the final third, sometimes even the final 1/4. When its down to the nub, I get some pretty good flavors out of em. In fact, I will endure the grassy, somewhat harshness, jsut to get to the nub.

Thanks for sharing the review.

BTW - These are all hand made since 2002. Use to be machine buched, hand finished, but I don't think R&J makes those anymore...
