Romeo Y Julieta Belicoso (1998)
Length (in inches): 5-1/2 Ring Gauge: 52
The wrapper was a nice reddish rich brown color, smooth with just one noticeable vein running down the length of the cigar. Overall the construction was good.
Upon prelight the cigar smelled of of sweet tobacco, hay and oak wood. The draw was near perfect. I lit the cigar my initial draws produced flavor sweet toasted nuts, light leather, and tasty oak woodiness.
The burn was even with a pale white ash and I only had to touch up the burn once at the beginning with a torch.
After about 1 inch suddenly flavors of sweet citrus fruit, toasted nuts and hints of a sweet tea flavor were introduced and finished with generous portions of sweet oak and rich tobacco. The citrus and cedar notes become more pronounced after about 2 inches and the cigars profile as a whole became more full bodied and was quite savory and rich. The depth of complexity and a subtleness of flavor was amazing and but little did I realize that this cigar was about to get better. It definitely got my attention.
By the last third of the cigars flavor profile went into overdrive. I noticed the citrus was joined by flavors of rich cooked citrus fruit preserves, hints of tangy tangerine peel, sweet cedar nuttiness, moist earthiness and light aromatic floral notes also appeared. Not wanting to waist a single moments smoking pleasure I grabbed a tooth pick and nubbed this RYJ down to about three eights of an inch. Lip burning good!
I would have to say that overall the flavor profile remained consistent and is very well balanced from start to finish. Again many thanks to my bro calistogey for this excellent cigar.
