Ring Gauge: 50
Length: 5.0"
Filler: Blend of Honduras and Nicaragua
Binder: no idea. Where do you get this info anyway?
Wrapper/Color: Dark and oily Maduro
Most people know of the R4 as being wrapped in a corojo leaf. I wanted to try something different and so opted for the fuller bodied maduro wrapper. Man was that a great idea. These babies came fresh in the mail, oily and smelling good. The wrapper is pitch black and has a smoky leather smell. They were solidly constructed and felt heavier then they look. With the first light, smoke began to billow off the end of the cigar. These babies create a lot of smoke but are a bit hard on the draw. The first couple of puffs had a nice pleasant taste. There were some slight spicy undertones but nothing major. Most of the flavor is liquorish with a hint of leather. A little bit of nuttiness came in to play around the last half but that’s it. The cigar tasted pretty much the same the entire way through. Don't get me wrong, that's not a bad thing, but if you like complex cigars, then you'd be best served by passing this one by. The ash was a dark grey, sometimes black and you could probably do an ash stand with it. These cigars are slow burners and even though it's only 5 inches long, you could easily spend 2 hours puffing on it. My only complaint with these is that they don't really burn right. Some of them burn fine, others are a pain in the ass to get to burn straight. I'm not sure why, but I've gone through about 30 of these and no two burn the same. However, the big full bodied taste and the cheap price (~$2/cigar) more then make up for the burn issues. These things are perfect for the golf course and that's where I mainly smoke them. Your golf buddies will love it because you all get to smoke Rocky Patel’s and you'll love them because they taste decent and only cost $2/cigar.
