I know there's been a couple reviews of this already, but I figured I'd throw my own into the hat (along with some pics) since I smoked one of these a couple of nights ago.

Construction was great. A nice dark wrapper with a bit of a box press shape to it. This particular cigar had a split at the foot for about 1/2 inch because it was dropped a while ago. I've had this cigar since around Christmas time.

I cut this without issues - nice and clean cut. Pre-light draw was a little tighter than I liked, but not unbearable. Lighting was easy and the cigar started burning without any issues.

The taste... I get a really earth, woody flavor from these cigars initially, but as always with these 92s, I get flavors of a brassy metallic. It's not consistent and kind of comes and goes, but when it's there, it's unpleasant and overpowers the better flavors. The overall burn was a little uneven, but nothing worth touching up. The cigar started to get bitter at the last two inches, so I dropped it shortly after the last picture.

The tastes and experience I get with these 92s is always the same, even in the seconds I'd sometimes get from CI. There's always a brassy, metallic taste to me that makes them unpleasant. Without that, these would be great cigars, but there's just something in these that doesn't agree with me.

Let me say that I love the 90s. I get a completely different flavor profile with those. For me to read that the 90s and 92s have same filler and binder with just a different wrapper floors me. I don't see how it can be.

I give this cigar a 6.5 out of 10.

I'm a bit surprised. Great pic review though.

I have a few 92's and a few 90's around, but I don't smoke them often. But every time I get one out, I almost always remark about how good they taste and how much I like them.

I'm not tracking that metallic brass taste, but I'll look for it next time.

Nice review again. The RP Vint and SG lines are not my faves. The few times I've smoked them, there has been some flavor in the background that I did not like. Metallic brass is about as close as anything to capturing it.

I dig your smokedown sequence. Having done sequences like that, I know it takes quite a bit of finagling to get right. Thanks for putting in the extra effort.

Thanks for the review John. Although I've only had a few 92's, I did also experience that wierd taste you described but I've had a few that were good. They did come from different sources/individuals so maybe age or storage has something to do with it.

Nice review John.
I have the same experience with the 92's not agreeing with me. I don't remember exactly what the flavor was but gave up on them after my second try.
The 90's however, they are good. Not in my top ten but, good.
Thanks for sharing.

Nice review and great pictures. Out of the two, '90, 92', I prefer the '90s. However, they both are good.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that gets that "special" flavor from the 92s. :)

I've thought the same thing about the flavor...and it's pretty strong too. I smoked both a 90 and a 92 within a day of each other and didn't find a whole lot of difference although my pallatte is still in development. All I can remember is thinking to myself, "this would be a cigar that a cigarette smoker would enjoy, but it's not for me."

Exactly. These cigars don't exactly taste like ass, but I definitely am done with them. I've had 3 or 4, didn't like them at all.

Is it any wonder these cigars are 'always' on sale?

Rocky Patel seems to get a lot of recognition, especially due to the good ole Edge Maduro, but personally, I think the whole brand is a bit over-rated.

I have the same opinion on the Sun Grown's. Except, those do have a hint of ass to them.

Peace,

TS

I've enjoyed the '92s over the '90s, finding them generally smoother. That being said I've only had one before. Will have to give these another go and then give a review. However, overall the RPs generally don't do much for me. The tastes are more 1-dimensional I find, generally strong expresso or leather and that is about it.

Try the Fusions. They are much more complex. My review of them is here.

They are the best RPs I've had and one of my top cigars. :)
