Rocky Patel Decade - Pre-release

I received this smoke at this years Big Smoke scotch pairing on Sunday afternoon. I didn't smoke it at the time, instead smoking the Vintage 1990 they gave out instead.

I got home and figured I'd better smoke this bad boy before it was released, so I can say I smoked something not very many people have yet. I did not write down review notes so this won't technically be a review, but instead a preview.

To start things off, this smoke was the best constructed cigar I've ever smoked. It was definitely a 100 in this portion of a review. The wrapper was sublime, the construction of the smoke was sublime, the draw was absolutely perfect, the burn was absolutely perfect etc etc etc. Bar none, the best construction I've yet to see.

The flavor on the otherhand was merely ok. There wasn't much complexity to the smoke. The flavor was medium bodied and resembled other RP offerings, but honestly, without as much flavor. I had really hoped for more complexity in the smoke. There was nothing wrong with the flavor, just wasn't what I'd hoped for. I was hoping for more pop personally. The cigar is balanced, everything works well together. Just not my preferred flavor profile and not enough oomph.. YMMV

Thanks for the preview/review. I have had the same opinion regarding the RP Old World Reserves. I liked them when they were first released, but the ones I have had of late were lacking in the flavor profiles.

Thanks for the review. I was at a event yesterday and I met Rocky and he gave me 2 of these to try. I plan on letting them get a little time on them in the humidor b4 I try one.

Hey LouTam, did you meet Rocky at the Tworld customer appreciation party ? I was there too. Really nice guy.

Met Rocky, bought a box of these cause everyone sold me on them, but have yet to try one. Rocky signed the box for me, also gave me a stick too. I generally am not an RP fan, but got sucked into the sales pitch and raffle tickets. Did get some decent spiffs in the raffle though. Should be able to fire one of these this week. I figured with the limited release and all the hype, might make a SS kid happy to have one of these.

Thats exactly how I met him. What a great guy. Were you still there when they started the live auction? Very classy when Rocky offered up the trip to his place for the winning bidder on his box they were auctioning!! What a great event.

Yep. I got there a little after 1 and syayed til about 6. Someone landed a sweet box of sticks with and even sweeter vacation from Rocky.

Really good turn out, biggger than last year. I headed home when the cigar items on the auction were pretty much done.

I bought a Xikar cutter at the live auction, picked up some nice sticks at 25% off, was given some nice sticks, good wine, cold beer, fried turkey and paella. The sausage bread one of the ladies was passing around was solid too.

I won a Perdomo hat, Rick walked by and said "nice hat", but did not offer a stick. Probably just as well as I am not really a Perdomo fan.

Rocky, on the other hand, game me an unmarked ciar out of his jacket that is one of his personal smokes. Very class act and nice guy. Even though I am not a huge RP smoker, and have yet to try the Decade, he made me glad I bought his product.

Who won the grand prize ? Probably Steve as he had won everything else.
