Thursday afternoon i pulled a Opus Perfecxion #2 out of the humi after about a two year rest. This afternoon was going to be a spicey one. While working on some afternoon work around the house i grabbed this beauty and cut it just a touch bigger than a dime. I had about 10 minutes more of work so i filled up a glass of pepsi and let the opus sit a few to air out. When complete i began a top to bottom inspection of this great stick. No off colors, one solid vein running thru a side and a very perfect spongy feel from one end to the other. After a prelight taste that reminds me very much of touching my tongue to a near dead nine volt battery (pepper of the gods) i fire this bad boy and sit down to a cool fall afternoon. Now where i live you dont see much sun as im back in the woods, but as i sat down today i notice the sun is out in force and its shining heavily thru all the colored leaves. A perfect setting and a perfect smoke.
The first notice is of course the massive plum of light blue smoke rolling from the end of this beast. It has a somewhat spicey pecan smell to it as i breath it in. The first thing i notice is not to much spice. In fact the only thing i could think of is its like a spicey Nutter butter. The smell and taste are wonderful but as i continue to about an inch or so of ash the whole sweet smell and taste fades to a triumphant knock you off your feat pepper and white pepper and more spice than any cigar should be allowed. This is the one or 1.5 inches where my glass of soda goes empty. This is the area that shows a happy mix off all the flavors possible in this smoke. As i continue the spice drops off to a more tolerable level. I let the gar rest a minute to get a refill and come back to the last half. This area is very pleasant as it gets a woody flavor mixed with the heavy but fadeing spice from the dead center. This is the prime area. The relax and know your alive spicey woody mixed with the returning nut/chocolate that i had at the very beggining. Once in a while towards the end i get a mild kick of the pepper again but for the most part its smooth bold and very well blended. The finish of just about the entire smoke is clean with the hazel/sweet taste mixed with spice. The dead center is of course a heavy blast but the finish stays clean thruout. Once i get to close to my fingers for anymore pleasure i set it aside finish my soda and enjoy about 30 minutes of the taste sensation. The smooth flowing two year old cigar was the best ive had in many monthes.
