The voice of the Tigers passed today at the age of 92. Rest In Peace Ernie...

Simply, he was the voice you looked for if watching the Tigers, bad or good, for over 40 years. He was one of those "distinctive" voices......all you had to do was hear him, and you knew what you were listening to.

Ernie was a legend and he will be missed. The Reds lost Joe Nuxhall after the 2007 season and we had the same reaction. Rest in peace, Ernie!

Gowdy, Barber, Allen and now Harwell. They're all gone. Baseball has never and will never be the same without those guys. RIP

Doc.

I used to fall asleep growing up listening to Ernie a lot. For whatever reason, I was always able to pick up his Detriot station in the summer all the way over in northeast PA easier than I could the Yankees or the Phillies games.

He certainly had a way about him. He will be missed. RIP

Doc is totally spot on about the great broadcasters who are no longer with us. The guys now with a few exceptions are all so selfserving that it takes away from the game. The old school guys never let themselves distract the audience from the game, they only improved it and painted pictures for us in words that made you feel like you were there and they were long lost friends.
