Ring Size--how to measure it?

I measured the circumference in mm but these numbers are much greater than what the ring size should be. So, how is it measured?

Thanks for the formula.

Aren't we lucky that they didn't base it on a logarithmic scale or, like, on Farenheit divided by Kelvin minus 32%RH.

Now I know why my brain refuses to accept any other system but metric. Cigars could be so much more fun :rolleyes:

So I have my vernier calipers, my micrometer, my ruler, my tape measure. How do I measure the diamater of a rectangular cross section box press (as opposed to a square cross section)? Is it like an ellipse measurement, short and long diameters averaged?

PS for those pesky international foreign sites, I multiply the mm by 254 to get inches in decimal form. I leave the division by 64 to the user.

That's geometry and since it has nothing to do with cigars, this newbie can actually contribue something:

Measure the circumference = c (a soft tape measure will work best)

Find the diameter d = c/3.14

d * 64 = ring size

edited to correct an error before some math wiz questions my formula:
c= pi * d, not 2pi * d as I had it first.
