Ricmac was kind enough to send me a number of cigars, 3 of which are unbanded. The idea is that I smoke 'em, and post what I think of them. Never one to turn down free cigars, I obliged quickly... before he could change his mind.
I must confess, though, I think I failed Ricmac a bit. In order to truly taste a cigar, one needs to do it with a clear palate and a clear mind. Tonight, I had neither.
I had a few beers, mixed drinks, and a number of cigars before I broke out Ricmac's mystery cigar #1. Specifically, I had an Opus X Maduro with a 1995 Sam Adams Triple bock, then a RASCC (2003 -- from Triple_D) with some beers, and a Padrón 1964 Piramide with a variety of beers and mixed drinks.
It was then that I decided to light up mystery cigar #1. Apologies in advance, Ricmac, my palate had been defiled, and my mind bent before I got to this cigar.
Despite that, I utterly enjoyed it. A nice fat robusto sized cigar, when I first sparked it up, it tasted a lot like a Padrón to me -- but that could have been a hangover from the Piramide I had before it. Some nice hints of nuts, with leathery overtones... it was quite flavorful and enjoyable.
As I smoked it more, I started to notice what I'd call a bit of characteristic Cuban twang -- that nice little twang of spicy flavor after you've exhaled it... it was really quite enjoyable.
I'm divided as to what this cigar was; but given my state of mind, I'm not terribly shocked. Apologies, Ricmac, I'll try to be sober and virginal (in the tobacco sense of the word) for the next one.
Definitely two thumbs up for this cigar though -- whatever it was, it was incredibly tastey. To put the cigars I had tonight in order, I'd place them thusly:
1) tie Opus X Maduro Chuchill & Padrón 1964 Piramide Maduro -- this wasn't the best Opus X Maduro (though it was still wonderful), and it was an exceptionally good Padrón 1964 Piramide
2) Ricmac's mystery cigar #1 -- this was a really tasty cigar, I wish I'd smoked it earlier on it was so good
3) RASCC -- this was okay -- tasty, but nothing special -- probably needs more age to move up on the list
So Ricmac, what was this masked cigar, exactly? I hope it's cheap, I want more.
