A liquor store ad in the Milwaukee paper has listed as a "unique gift idea", a bottle of Remy Martin Louis XIII for only $1299.99

I am more a beer person, so I have no clue what this is, but it sort of flored me when I saw it... but they do have a reasonably priced Pierre Ferrand Ancestral 70 y/o Cognac at $399.99

I think it's the BEST cognac out there. Full retail is between $1,300 - $1,600 but you can find it on eBay for $700.00 (well since it's Christmas, the prices have been going up :0 )

AVB used to send me links when he'd find great deals on this stuff. I missed out on getting a bottle for somewhere under $550.00 and I'm still kicking myself :(

It's GOOOOOOOOOOOOD stuff

Hennessey & Courviosier have high end equivalents but since Remy Martin is my favorite, I don't keep track of deals on other brands.

On my eventual list of things to get, have had Courvoisier's X.O., and it is a very enjoyable drink, for around $100 or so a bottle.

oh yeah, and since you're from Milwaukee, PM sent.

Like a number of things, reputation jacks the price up considerably. There are a number of exceptional cognacs at much more reasnable prices. Look for
Francois Peyrot Heritage 50 Year Old Cognac @ about $150, Hine Triomphe Cognac (40-50 yo) - $250, Jean Fillioux Reserve Familiale Tres Vielle Grande Champagne (50 yo) - $225 or skip cognac altogether and look for old Armagnac at prices at least a third less.

Kelt XO ain't bad either......Brings back memories of the second anual Mooch Herf in Richmond.... :D

Still waiting for one of the Ebay deals.

The Ferrand ancestral is very good.

Hennesy Paradis is very nice for around $225

Also, I'm about ready to pay to much for the Cohiba blend .
Because it would look really cool on my bar.

I've never really liked cognac, then again I haven't had much. Maybe I'll start liking it later in life.

Not my favorite either thank God, I couldn't afford 2 hobbies that involved multi-hundred $ bottles. Good once in a while but I'll stick to scotch.

Ah yes, I'm probably more hung up on the reputation as I've never had any of the one's you mentioned AVB. Thanks for the suggestions for what sounds like something just as good for a fraction of the cost (or should I say "darn you" since now I feel compelled to try them ALL :D )

Sure, blame me for expanding your horizons.
