I would love to host a small smoker at my cabin over a weekend in the spring.

It's a small hunting cabin on Leesville Lake 6 miles south of Carrollton, Ohio

Setting the expectations:

It's in the boonies

It is completely remodeled and has all the amenities

We will probably build an all day bon fire

We will probably play texas hold-em

We will have some very good food cooked on the fire or in the smoker

We will drink lots of beer

We will stink the joint up with good cigars

Cigarette smoking is permitted outside

There are beds for 5-6, deck and floor space for many more

WHAT HAPPENS AT MY CABIN STAYS AT MY CABIN

LODGING AND FOOD WILL COST EXACTLY 1 PREMIUM CIGAR PER GUEST

THERE WILL BE NO FIGHTING OR MAKING FUN OF MY HILLBILLY NEIGHBORS

ANYONE WILLING TO ATTEND IS WELCOME

Now that's funny, I don't care who you are, that's funny!

As your friend, please let me explain why others here will be scrambling to quote your original post going forward. Editing to correct grammar, spelling, or even to add a thought is good. Editing to completely erase a post is not.

Sorry, I felt compelled since it was pointed out to me that I had no right to be active on the forum yet as I am just a newbie. I didn't want to attract any more negative attention. Thanks for the input, as I am still learning. Damn I hope I can get it right soon!

But the offer still stands!

Don't make fun of the hillbillys

I think the politically correct term is Appalachian Americans... :sign:

CigarStone, if I was close by, it would be an honor, brother! How far are you from the BBQ Herf?

Nope, they're hillbillies. Me too a little bit I guess!

Where is the BBQ HERF, I can't seem to find the location?

I don’t know who would have told you that you don’t have a right to be active because you’re a newbie. I’m going to guess that you’ve misunderstood some good advice. You have every right to be active; in fact you’re encouraged to be active. The problem is that you’ve offered to host an event (with a fee no less, albeit a cigar) and nobody knows anything about you other than you have a lot of questions about cigars and the cigar culture. It’s a little naïve to expect any other reaction than what you’ve seen.

You seem to have difficulty understanding the advice that you are being given in regards to the community here, and that the advice is for your edification. You seem to take things personally. Being given advice and guidance is not “negative attention”, what you do with the advice is what brings the attention, either positive or negative.

CigarStone - In general the members here are cautious and protective over the community especially when a new guy shows up and tries to sell cigars right off the bat. There are people who come in all the time and try to scam the goodwill of the brothers here so you can understand why we are a bit paranoid. So even though you are selling cheap cigars, it is bad form to do so in your first week. Just my 2 cents.

I'll accept that.

One point though. What would be in bad form would be to expect someone to pay me prior to receiving the cigars. Or even worse, taking their money and then not sending the cigars as Smurf alluded to.

Apologies to all

Actually CigarStone, your apology to "all" reads, to me anyway, to be "to all except Nullsmurf". He's the one you most owe an apology for calling him an ass for simply trying to point you in the right direction.

Because you are new to this community, it is absolutely acceptable and expected that you would send your cigars before receiving payment. It is also absolutely acceptable and expected that as a new member, you would take advice from more seasoned members. You would do well to consider that you are heading down the wrong trail with this. So far, the only "ass" that I've seen in this thread is yours.

I'm screwed!

I don't think so! Smurf gave his opinion and very good advise and maybe you misinterpreted it a little. It happens. I think you will find that this site is like a good parent, protective and ironed handed. You did apologize to all, but you specifically called Smurf an ass (which may be true  jk) but not in this post. He deserves an apology IMHO.

Ken

My apology was, and is, to all; Smurf included (maybe especially)

I still don't get the analogy that because I am new here I would not know how to ship cigars or that I would "steal" money and not ship the cigars. I think that was a shot across the bow that fell a little short.

However, being that I am new, and apparently stepping on very hallowed turf, I sincerely apologize. And I hope I didn't mis-spell any words or use incorrect grammar......either way my steel plated hull is intact in case I did.

Things like this are what bring negative attention. Good advice followed by sarcastic disregard. Then more good advice followed by an apology but by beginning with “being that I am new, and apparently stepping on very hallowed turf “ your apology again shows your sarcasm.

You need to know that this is exactly the kind of ‘interaction’ that’s going to make things uncomfortable for you, or you can take advice for what it is, a means to educate you for the benefit of yourself and the community.

Can we just agree to disagree?

Or you can contiinue to follow me around and bitch at me like I was your wayward 12 year old son.

Jeff, I have no intention of following you or anyone else around, and if you consider sound rational advice to be "bitching" then my final piece of advice for you is to strap yourself in for some rough waters. Clearly you're just a drama troll.

Don't even go there CS. To start (regardng my post) If you can't take a little fun....go home!

As far as preembargo - Forget that you have no credibility, you have no manners.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

It's cool to see someone jump into the hobby both feet first. But, it's a train wreck to see someone jump into the forums with both feet first. You need to get your toes wet first and then ease the rest of yourself into the waters.
