I have a 50's dunhill humidor i'm in the process of reinstating and I'm having problems with the humidifier. I want to replace the water holding material which is held in a brass frame with an aluminium grill. The filling seems like a white fibre like board. Can any one give me any ideas on what Material it is and where I may be able to buy a replacement. Any help would be really welcome. Thanks

EIther some floral foam (the green stuff)...or better yet, get some Heart Felt humidity beads (make sure the containter has some mesh or a good screen to hold them in.)

Also, did the sides need to be sanded? Either way, you will have to prime it with a little rub down of water - only use distilled.

Good luck.

The finish is in that well used but looked after condition that will sit well on my over crowded desk and mean i can hide my bigger and newer one out sight. It's getting a good airing to rid the musty smell.

Could put a finer mesh behind the original. Which I think I may have to do to use with beads. Would love to replace it with what was originally there. Just broke the original in half and its like chalky layered card.
Thanks for your help. Good idea

Airing it out may help...but you also may want to think about light sanding the inside.

There are threads on here about refinisihng/reusing old humi's.

You can even buy the beads in a mesh bag...or put them in a new nylon....done!

BTW - that chalk cound be build up...and the original material consumed.
