I've been smoking cigars for some time, but last november in Gatlinburg, TN my wife eased me out of the humidor and over to the pipe rack. An extremely knowledgable pipe dealer (who looked and acted strangely like Donald Sutherland) introduced me to pipe smoking. He set me up with a 40 dollar pipe and a bunch of tobacco to try. http://www.gatlinburlier.com is the name of the shop. I love their stuff but I didn't realize that there was something out there besides aromatics. I would like to stay close to aros as my wife enjoys em and ya'll know how that is, but I'd like to sample the other types of tobaccos out there.

I wouldn't be exaggerating if I said there were a lot more brands of pipe tobacco out there than cigars! So i'm a lot overwhelmed.

What do you guys recommend as a good go-to smoke? I NEED GUIDANCE! I'm willing to try anything I can afford but I have no idea

I like Butternut Burley from Habana Premium Cigar Shoppe . They have a number of house blends that are well thought of. If you stay away from the heavy Latakia or Perique blends, your wife should be fairly happy.

Let's see... Pipeworks and Wilkie http://www.vtpipes.com/ will put together a sampler for you, as will L.J. Peretti of Boston. In fact, many of the online vendors will do this.

LMAO!! Hey,I met the guy at Gatlinburliers and you are spot on,he does remind you of Donald Sutherland.

All good choices, if you want to try a sampler use this link http://www.pipesandcigars.com/ruouhobl.html. It's the same as the first one Psyktek gave but takes to directly to Russ's blends. If you go to the bottom of the list there a sampler offer. Read the offerings and pick 6 to try. I have smoked most of them and all are good.
