Hey all,

I am sorry if this is the wrong forum or if this has been brought up before (I checked the search function but only came up with a whole bunch of hydrating beads and I dont know what those are yet) but I was just curious about the best way to rehydrate dry cigars.

My friend tonight gave me a nice 30-50 cigar maple humidor that cost him 100.00 and there were some cigars inside. A couple Padrons and a couple fuentes along with some others that I have never heard of and they are all dry. I am just wondering about salvaging these cigars.

I thought I read somewhere something about what I just did. I got a gallon ziplock and a quart ziplock and I poked holes in the quart ziplock and put the cigars inside of it, closed it, and slid it inside the gallon ziplock and then I added a 3x3 wet sponge to the gallon ziplock and closed the top of that.

Is this correct or is there a better way?

Again, I am sorry if this post shouldnt be here. I am a newbie and just ask for a little patience :)

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated,

Kelly

Ouch. I wouldn't subject dried out cigars to 100% humidity like that and that is what a wet sponge will provide. You're headed down that road to wrapper-splitsville. Get 'em out and do it gently. And of course your results will depend on how dry and how long they've been dry.

Check out the search strategy in the accompanying links. You'll be able to see that by hitting "Reply" to my post to see the URL code. I used the most detailed search option and not the quick search.

I have some experience with this problem. What Wilkey said is true(of course). Patience and the realization they may not recover are key. Usually, the result is less than satisfactory but always worth a try. Cubans recover much better, in general.

Over a period of time at a stable, slightly higher RH, I've sometimes had luck.

Time and Patience. :whistling:

Thanks Wilkey! I'm a newbie idiot. I was searching for rehydrate and rehydrating and re-hydrate etc... It never even crossed my mind to search dried out. .

No worries. You went about it the right way. Do a search, report back with any further questions. There truly is a wealth of information contained in the half million or so posts here on CP. The trick is to find what you need and in that, familiarity with the terminology will increase your search efficiency and satisfaction. :)
