Wrapper: Cuban
Binder: Cuban
Filler: Cuban
Strength: Medium
I must give a huge shout out to my Secret Santa, Stu, for giving me the opportunity to finally have the chance to smoke one of these cigars. I had one prior to this courtesy of Greg, but it was unfortunately rock solid plugged, which really bummed me out at the time, as I had very much been looking forward to smoking it. I've not much experience with ISOM's, having only smoked a few, so this was a nice change of pace from my usual Nicaraguan smokes. This review is actually from February 7th, but I just hadn't found the time to sit down to edit it, upload the pictures, ect, so I must apologize to Stu for this as I had told him I would post this review the same time I did the Blue Label Lancero he sent me.
Pre-Light
I must say that the overall presentation of this cigar is very, very well done. The soft, supple, chocolate brown wrapper has a light sheen of oil to it along with a mottled appearance, with a very nice spring felt when squeezed. There is an abundance of veins throughout, though no overly large ones. The traditional Cuban triple seam cap is there in all its glory, and is accompanied by a perfectly bunched foot that has a very good sweet tobacco scent to it.
Draw & Burn
I decided to play it safe with the draw, choosing to punch the head so as to ascertain whether cutting it further was needed or not. Luckily, the draw was spot on with just the right amount of resistance, so I left it as is. This was the case throughout the duration of the smoke, with not a single relight, touch up or purge needed. The ash was that typical dark, almost black in some spots color that held strong until tapped off every inch or so.
Flavor Profile
The pre-light draw carried on it a very faint, sweet tobacco taste that pretty much exploded to a very prominent level once lit. It almost reminded me of brown sugar at times, and was very, very tasty and left me licking my lips. Once the smoke settled in, a solid core of full flavor coated the palate with tastes of rich tobacco, vanilla, and a spice that kept me thinking of pumpkin spice like that used in making pumpkin pie. Delicious, simply delicious.
Overall Impression
The only problem with this cigar, is how good it is. I will certainly strive to attain more, as this could easily become a staple in my humidor. Again, a huge thanks to Stu for the chance to smoke this prime example of a kick ass cigar. Anyone have some of these with good age on them?
