Lucked into some 1998 RyJ Churchills. Smoked the first one last night....Holy Cow.
Normally I tend to shy away from the most popular cigars. This probably stems from two reasons, one is the chance of counterfeiting is greater and second is my quest to smoke cigars that not everyone else does. However, once you have the assurance the cigars are genuine, it is easier to get over the hump on the second reason.
One look at these cigars and the anticipation grew large. Some of the darkest wrappers I've seen. Silky and oily way beyond expectation. Absolutley wonderfull in appearance. The burn was superior and draw, which can sometimes be problematic for cigars from that era was perfect. The flavors were outstanding with no rough edges whatsoever. I would characterize the body as medium. There was a clear cedar note with, what I would characterize as, tropical spice flavors at the outset, with toasty, woody flavors developing during the middle. Smoked to the nub, it only got better and maintained great complexity during the entire smoke. Very smooth, a testament to what some age can do IMHO.
My new go to special occasion smoke. Sorry about the review, but I just had to tell somebody and thought maybe you all might be interested.
