OK, just got in a box of these petite coronas today. The date code was DIC 04, so these puppies are fresh...hell, they don't even shave yet. However, I couldn't even wait for them to equilibriate from the trip, much less get some age. Had to smoke one. So, my girlfriend and I opened a bottle of wine, lit up cigars, and watched it rain.
The No. 3 had a medium brown wrapper with just a hint of redness to it. Not what I would call rosado, but maybe colorado. It was asthetically pleasing with few veins and seams. It also had a very distinctive triple cap. The pre-light nose was dominated by cedar, but also had some earth and coffee. The pre-light draw was firm.
I put it to the torch and it lit easily, the draw opening right up to just south of perfection. Each puff on this little cigar produced plentiful medium-bodied smoke. The aroma from my girlfriend's cigar was wonderful. The burn was even for the most part, requiring only one minor touch up near the back end. The cigar burned cool right down to the nub. The ash was medium gray in color and fairly firm, staying on the cigar an inch at a time. Overall, really nice construction.
The taste was more what I have come to expect from Cuban petite coronas. The flavor exploded right off the bat, full tastes of coffee, earth, and cedar. The coffee and earth remained the base flavor throughout the smoke, with hints of various spices showing up from time to time. I sensed definite tastes of cinnamon and vanilla at various times during the smoke. The cigar ended with a definite increase in earthy flavors and picked up some strength on the back end. Great tasting cigar.
I know I should have given the cigars some time in the humidor to "adjust," but just couldn't do it. Glad I smoked it. I give this cigar an A.
