If I let the RH level to drop to say 65% on the 70% beads that I got will it still be ok? I mean if I let it there rather than adding water to the beads at that point. I was wondering how long will it stay say between 65% to 68%, or does it drop precipitously after a certain level?

The reason I am asking this is for my humi that has exclusively ISOMs. I want to see if I can regulate it to below 70% but over 65%.

I know, I know why not just buy the 65% beads :whistling:

I like this question...

I've got 70% beads in my Coolerdor. The boxes are currently enjoying a humidity level of 68% with the 70% beads. I'm using the Radio Shack remote temp/hygro unit and have tested it (repeatedly) to ensure accuracy.

I don't drench the beads with distilled water. Instead I chose to use more beads than necessary and just dampen them slightly with about 50% of them going clear. There's 4 small mesh bags full of beads in my Igloo Ice Cube (50qt I think). The beads work great and the Cooerdor RH has been consistent and not wavered, even being opened every couple days with the addition of new boxes.

My two humidors have the 65% beads and they mostly stay right at 63% RH and will go up or down slightly (1 or 2%) from time to time. I have noticed that these beads seem to get solid white color pretty quickly.

Hope this info helps... maybe Viper can add some more!

love this questions myself..i too bought the 70% beads so if it drops a bit, i wont be getting all panicky.

The way I understand it is when the humidity in the air is below 70 the beads release whatever water content they contain to achieve a level of 70 once more. if your humi drops I would assume it would continue to drop since either the beads are clogged or need to be charged.. or will very soon need to be charged.

The beads will do their best ot keep the rh as close to 70% as they can until they have given up most of thier moisture. Then it becomes difficult for them to keep the level up until they finally go dry. At this point the rh will start dropping quicker depending on the rh of the room around them. Obviuously they will drop quicker here in Nevada than they will in a high humidity area of the country.

Here in Chicago the air is very dry in the winter. I've used 70% beads all winter and my RH has been beween 62-66% I have been recharging them very often. In the summer I will go to 65% beads.
