What are you thoughts on the
Montecristo Especiale No. 2?
I have read some interesting reviews over on the cigar review website. But have not come across any member reviews. Your thoughts are appreciated..

Monte ESP#1's are freakin' awesome, but I haven't had the E#2.

I had one of these not too long ago. It was just ok for me.

Easy draw from a well constructed cigar. Moderate amount of smoke, but nothing special about the taste of this puro. Like I said, it was just so so for me.

I'm always to give these and any others another try. I agree heavily about something a friend once told me regarding smoking a cigar from a box of cigars of the same make: the best smoke can be right next to the worst smoke!

Nuff said,
Darren

What was the year of the smoke?

I have some from Feb 99 made in the Jose Marti factory. I have had the box a long time (4 years). I still have 16 left. They are ok, but certainly not knock your socks off or representative of other Montecristo cigars which I find more to my liking. Rather non-desript flavor and on the mild side of medium as I recall. I was hoping they might get better with age. That being said, each box and each vintage is different and some are better than others. Perhaps some other folks have a higher opinion of the cigar based on their experience and that's great, but it is something I probably would not but again unless there was an outstanding vintage sometime.

OK, I smoked one tonight so as to give some additional comments. Perfect burn, very nice light choc wrapper. First half was so so, but continued to improve as the cigar was smoked (nubbed it with burned lips as a matter of fact). While the first half of the cigar was on the simple side, the second half had lots of flavor and became more complex. Perfect draw, no construction problems. What I think of as the traditional Monte taste came through nicely on the last half. Went nice with the glass of Merlot.

When these smoke correctly( not plugged)they are fantastic cigars. They are very representative of the Monte flavor profile and have some excellent nose on them.

I stopped buying these back in 00 because of consturction problems. A good friend of mine recently bought some new ones and said they were great.

My canadian friend has a 03 box that is smoking great and will only improve with some more age. He says they are his favorite Monte.

I'm not a Monte fan at all so I don't really like these. However I've heard from the Monte fans out there that they like them.

To each his own.

I have only had f from 99. While it was a good cigar I noticed some quality problems with themm. TIght draws and flimsy construction. GOod flavore on the ones that did smoke well.

Hopefully the ones I have coming dont have any serious issues. Looking forward to these.
