Question about HF beads

Hello everyone. I'm currently using this product from HF. http://www.heartfeltindustries.com/proddet...rod=RH_Small_65

My problem is that I find it hard to keep about 10-20% of the beads dry. The directions that came with it said to place it face down into a bowl of distilled water about 1/8-1/4 of an inch. I dipped it in and within a few seconds all the beads were clear. So I said w.e and just stuck them in my humi. They are working fine but I probably still need some of the dry beads. So I ordered a half pound of beads and plan to keep the product Im currently using and keep it 100% wet, while I put a small container (about 20% of the wet beads) also in the humi.

Will this work fine? I hope so only because its a pain trying to keep 10-20% of the beads dry in the case it is in.

Having 10-20% of the beads dry is not a hard number. As long as some of the beads are still opaque you are OK. The main thing is to make sure that there is no standing water in the container and that all of the distilled water you added is absorbed by the beads.

It is OK if the beads dry out to almost completely white, as long as there is some moisture still in them they will humidify the humidor. When they become mostly white, or anywhere in between, just add some more distilled water and the cycle repeats. You don't have to keep the beads at 80-90% hydrated all the time.

I hope this makes sense.

Ah ok, cool. I understand, thanks. Since I already ordered the new beads, I guess I will still use them. Should I do what I suggested in the first post, or just put them in a container and spray them like normal?

I just poor some distilled water into my bead dishes when I see the the top layer start to turn white. Spraying will work great as well, just make sure you don't spray so much that you have standing water.

Im just worried about having enough white beads to absorb moisture, or I shouldnt have to? Just incase RH gets too high.. or the beads wont even release moisture pass 65? I havent had any problems yet, I just thought the white beads also helped stabilize the RH.

Imp88,

Don't overthink it, or your head is going to explode!! The large puck you ordered is going to be more than enough for your 25 ct. humidor setup. When you get your puck, just spray the beads, wait until most of them turn white, shake out the excess water, and toss it in there. The whole point of the Heartfelt beads is that they are no fuss, and no muss.

The worst that will happen is that you come home one day and your cigars feel a bit "squishy." In that case, take the puck out, let it dry for a day, and then put it back in when the beads are turning a milky-clear white. Like I said, DON'T OVER THINK IT. You won't know the true nature of what works for your setup until you actually try it boss... I was the same way when I started, and wanted all my questions to be answered before I got my cigars set up. It ain't gonna happen, so just roll with it and know you'll make some mistakes.
