Question about aged Davidoffs

To all the FOG's (or anyone else with such knowledge). ASSUMING I WAS SOMEWHERE WHERE THIS TRANSACTION WOULD BE 100% LEGAL, what would you conisder a reasonable (reasonable might be a stretch...how about expected) price for a box of aged Davidoff Chateau Margaux? A good friend with more money than common sense is considering buying a box while he is in a city where such things are legal and available (for a price.)
I have beyond NO experience with $100+/stick boxes. He comes to me for advice on all things cigars, and usually pays for my adivce with a stick or two. But my experience ends with perhaps 300, 350 dollar boxes, not 10X that amount!
Where could I even look up such information?

Thanks...

Josh

A lot depends on the quality of the cigars, i.e. were they stored properly since new. I've seen these anywhere from $65 each to $265 each. It's really a tough one to answer, as so much depends on what condition the cigars are in.

As Matt said, it's at some point a leap of faith that they have been cared for adequately for the 20 or so years they've been stored.

(Zino stopped using Cuban tobacco in the late 80s, right?)

Tell him to check the Christies Auctions. I know that they are getting 10 boxes of Don Candidos in Nov. I'll bet they come accross Davidoffs too.

Last year of production for Davidoffs was 1991, if I remember correct. I'm doing four things at once here and can't remember for sure. LMAO!

Matt, I think you're right, off by maybe a year (1990?), but I can't find the inofo page I used to have. They places he is considering buying from are the high-end tobacco houses, where I am confident they have been carefully stored. So ASSUMING they are in good shape, from 1985-1988, $140 a stick is not patently unreasonable?
I think I'll tell my buddy that this is well over my head, but I'll also buy a stick or two off him when I go visit!
Thanks for the input, everybody. if I get a chance to smoke one, I will post a review.

Yeah, good call on trying to get mid-80s ones, cos as we all know the reason Davidoff stopped dealing in Cuban tobacco was a severe decline in quality...so the 1991, for example, would be a poor choice compared to a 1985 or so.

I had a bunch of 1991 #1's, so I think they were still making them in '91, or at least boxing them still. Maybe not for all sizes though. $140 a cigar is not a bad price at all, especially in the UK.
