I had high hopes for this wondrous little cigar. The stick smells of sweet and tangy barnyard, maybe some compost and citrus. The foot smells of a delicate perfume with that wonderful smell of aged wood and hay. The wrapper is a bit veiny and slightly irregular but the construction is very good. The cigar is firm but giving to the touch and the cap is constructed perfectly. The color is of a deep milk chocolate with a slight sheen to it. I used my Xikar cutter to just slice the edges of the cap and flipped the cap off with my thumbnail, (thanks Wilkey, very nice touch and a beautiful way to smoke). The prelight is of earth and tobacco with a slight tingle on the tongue. I toasted the foot with my blue rhino triple flame lighter and put this lovely smoke to my lips for the light. The very first sensation is of clover and honey along with a very faint white pepper. Instantly I knew this smoke was going to rock my world and open a whole new avenue up to this novice lover of the leaf. Within the first 5 minutes I've tasted vanilla and cloves and cream with a touch of mint. There's a slight freshness at first which quickly subsides to an even mellow smoke that is thick on the palette. Its almost as if I'm smoking silk. It immediately brought back memories of a lover's taste, in an erotic sort of way. It may sound strange, but she immediately came to mind.
Seven minutes into the smoke and I've decided that this is a truly medium bodied smoke with loads of complexity. There are many flavors here. I can taste all the greatest tastes that I've tasted in many of my favorite smokes, but none of my favorite smokes remind me of this one. There is no tongue tingle at all during a herf, the pepper is completely gone and given way to butter, cream, cocoa, leather, and hazelnuts.
Twenty minutes in and this smoke is getting more rich with every draw. The draw is perfect, the burn is slightly irregular but nothing I'm worried about. Twenty five minutes in and the ash falls to the ground on its own and stays completely solid after a 3 foot fall. The construction is top notch.
Thirty five minutes in and I've decided I'm not taking notes anymore. Its not worth wasting a precious moment to write some scribble down. Everything now is from memory. The cream and butter are pronounced with an earth and fruit aftertaste with a touch of vanilla. I purged the smoke and I'm hit with loads of hazelnuts and leather. Can this get any better??
Yes, it absolutely can. Down to the nub I smoke this wondrous stick and all my stresses and worries have left my mind. The coke I'm pairing this smoke with is barely touched and there's no foul taste left in my mouth requiring a drink. This smoke would go well with a sweet bourbon, but I think many scotches would over power it. Down to the nub I go until the heat is too much for my lips. I want more. I want to light another but resist the temptation. I will savor these few gifts from a friend for some time, until I can have many more.
