I know most of the guys here at CP would love to attend the festival in Cuba but after attending my third Festival in the DR i have to say that there is no way that Cuba could compete with them as far as hotels, atmosphere and you meet cigar stars from all the companies that work there. A friend and i sat with Avo, Ernesto Carillo, Daniel Nunez, and a line up of cigar girls dresssed to kill passed out Davidoff's, La Gloria Cubanas, Avo LE's and other fine cigars. The floor shows were great, the dancers rocking to Carribean and American music and we at dishes that were tasty and beautifully prepared. Guys brought there wifes and danced to the music which lasted until 1AM every night, dressed up and looking good. We were treated like kings by the people, during the day i went on trips all over the island, museums, we toured Santo Domingo, where Columus lived as did his brother and Napolean's sister.
I just have to think that the first city in the western hemisphere has to be a draw to everyone who has studied American history in school. All the tours are guided by guides and history professors who speak both Spanish and English. I can't see why anyone would want to wait for Cuba to open up when you can the DR offers the best bang for the buck. The entire Festival costs $795 plus hotel and flights. I spent under $3000 and brought back gifts for all the family. Silver chains, chocolate and coffee plus paintings which the guides helped with the haggling for a better price. I've been to three festival and they keep finessing them in a good way. If you want a good time at a good price, try thr DR!
