Problem maintaining humidity in cooler

Can't seem to get my humidity up. I have 1 lb. of 65% beads in a 28 bottle Vinotemp cooler. I've got cedar on the back of the unit and made shelves out of cedar. 4 different (calibrated) hygros give me no higher than 60% after 3 days running. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

How long has the cedar been given to season, might just need to wait it out a few more days/week. If you are at 60 thats not to bad for now. If you need/want you can place a dish of Distilled water in the cooler and that will help raise the RH.

Also, run a search, there are severl threads on seasoning, beads, wino-o-dors, and the like.

Hope this helps

How long has the cedar been given to season......

Thats one possible reason. If the cedar is still absorbing humidity. I'm betting its because the unit is cycling a lot and when the compressor kicks on it draws the humidity down.

Try this..... unplug the unit for a day or two and rehydrate your beads very lightly. If your humidity rises to 65 then you know its the compressor cycling. If your cigars are stored in boxes no problem as the change inside the box is minimal during the running of the compressor and your hygros don't have the time to adjust to the true humidity level between cycles.
