when I checked out, they offered me this:

You can't say no to this deal! Buying and selling millions of cigars ever year, we do make a few mistakes. Take the ultra premium Gurkha Titan for example which retails for as much as $30.00 per cigar. We accidentally added an extra zero at the end of our purchase order and now we have enough Titans to sink a ship. For a limited time, take advantage of our error and pick up a 5 pack for only $29.95. That's 80% off MSRP on one of the world's foremost brands!

Edit: The above link is just a informational piece.

Edit #2: This was found on Slickdeals.
Here is the post.

When I click on the Gurkha link it does not have any price there and looking further it says $22 each ???

The second link was for informational purposes only. I will edit to reflect this.

I had to add the original sampler and checkout. After I logged in, it told me about the Gurkha deal.

CeeMmm,

Think of this thread as a time capsule. Come back in two months and read it. Then, post your thoughts. ;)

Huh? If you are referring to the the stuff in the middle of my original post, I just copy/paste 'ed CI's description.

Anyhoo, I will definitely post my thoughts when I smoke them :D :D :D

I think he was referring to the fact that in most of our opinions all three of those cigars suck dead donkey.

But go for it, its fun learning what the true difference between good and trash is and you can only do it by smoking them.

just checked out of ci daily deal got 10 for $50

I'm just observing the usual progression of a beginning smoker's tastes, based off of what I have recently seen in myself especially.

Gurkha tends to assign absurdly high MSRPs to their sticks as a marketing gimmick. They are nearly always sold at a large markdown, such that the customer is excited to "get a great deal."

I'm not trying to rain on your parade or say that you got ripped off, but you pretty much got a fiver of $6 smokes for a fair price. There are very few cigars that actually sell for $30, among which include the Padron 80th, Opus X Lancero, and Edmundo Dantes Conde 109.

In the end, smoke what you like, and like what you smoke.

That makes more sense...Oh well, hopefully the Gurkhas are good :)

I couldn't tell the types of cigars, just the brands (all well known).

Anyone care to help a noob out with some pointers on what to look for in these samplers?

(Are they really that bad?)

They are all overpriced, and some are as good as mediocre. When looking for a sampler of properly good smokes at a good price, head to the Newbie Sampler Thread right here at CP! :)

Thanks for the great advice!!! I'll do that soon. ;)

I am looking to try as many smokes as possible (that way I can buy boxes of my favorites), so I was doing the samplers on the daily deals pages.

BPJ's suggestion is right on about the newbie sampler. Instead of throwing your money at these 5 cigar deals, you could spend the same in the newbie sampler and get a much wider, and better selection of smokes. You can kinda look at the newbie samler as sort of a "pay the price of 8 cigars, and get a whole bunch free" if that makes you feel better about the deal. You will certainly get more than what you paid for, and then some.

Ah... yeah, it's a wonder they don't use the same marketing to move Anejos.

I just went on there to check out the prices on the Añejos. I knew they had ridiculously high prices, but damn...$34.95 for a shark!! Well, I'm not that surprised that they're that expensive, I'm shocked that they're sold out! Who pays that much for these??

Not trying to be a post whore or anything, but thank you for your insight. I appreciate the help, and hope that in the future I can help others out.
