Possible Bloom

OK so here my question is on the often discussed topic of bloom vs. mold. I don't have picture since I am without a digital camera for the time being, but my question is more general so I think it should be fine. I got a 10 pack of Oliva Series G a couple weeks ago online. I usually store my cigars without cellophane but for some reason I left these ones in theirs. I smoked one last night and noticed some off-white spots on it. It burnt a little uneven, but there was no noticeable change in the taste or smell. I checked the rest and the 3 others that have the spots are currently being quarantined in a small empty humidor. I've had a couple encounters with mold in the past and it looked very different in those cases, however, there are many species of mold. The spots are spread out and not particularly numerous except for on the one I already smoked. They have no bits of blue or green which would be a giveaway for being mold. They aren't at all fuzzy. In fact, I originally thought they were just spots on the leaf as they don't appear to protrude at all. They don't brush away but you can scrape them off with a fingernail. I know sometimes inventories can end up sitting around in effect aging them before you buy them, but can a cigar get bloom while it's still in cellophane?

Sounds like bloom to me, and why couldn't it bloom in cellophane?
Cello is porous.

Plume is pretty even distributed compared to mold,
Plume is crystalline in structure, not fuzzy like mold (plume should look like pure white, large grains of salt peppered all over the cigar),
Plume is also difficult to remove, were-as mold will just wipe off (you'll need your fingernails to wipe off plume),
Plume is white, mold varies in color.

Check this out

Ya the mold on the examples you have from vitolas.net are a perfict example of what i have found on my WOAM. What should i do i have a box and i have wiped them down and let them sit alone. am i ok if i just keep them seprate or is there other stuff i should do

Question out of curiosity...did you just by these..as New release smokes?

ok - if you look throuhg this site you will see a bunch of threads like this...here's the condensed version:

If you didn't wipe them:

1) Bring them back to the vendor for a return/exchange
2) Wipe them and smoke them
3) Cry like a baby and lick the mold off.(no - not really)

If you wipe them:

A) See above!

If you plan on keeping them, I would keep them in a seperate container...and smoke away!!! Puff Puff Puff!

Mold

If you are seeing spots my bet and IMO, i'ts mold.

Plume...well, how do you describe it...white pixie dust better seen when you hold the smoke up to light! :D

We need a picture.

Always store your cigars the way you received them. If they came in cello, keep them in cello... it will protect the wrapper.

Mold can be white as well.

You need to take a picture and post it... but I will say that mold can form quite quickly, and plume generally takes years and years of undisturbed rest to form.

Also I will say that 9 times out of 10, when people aren't sure whether it is mold or plume, it ends up being mold.

I am sorry i said WOAM it is really WOAN. i got them about 6 months ago. from TampaSweet hearts. They tried to tell me it is bloom. They are not spots. it is small whit and fuzzy just like the Montecristos in Moki's link . I have called tampasweet hearts and they said since it was six months ago they are not sure if they will take it back.

EDITED to add; will i ever be able to store these again in my humidor w/ out worrie about contamination? plus if i dont want to smoke them all now will i be able to store these at all(in my hummi or quarintned) for long periods of time w/ out worrie about mold forming again)

I had some Montecristos that got some mold or bloom on wrapper. I wiped them down then moved to a clear plastic jar with latch & seal with some 65% beads in a mesh bag. This was about a year ago and haven't had any new mold or bloom. Just my experience hope this helps.

edit to add. You can get jars at target.

yogimon thanks for the help.... after you noticed that there was no more mold for some time did you put them back w/ the rest of your cigars, or did you keep them in the jar till you smoked them?

Thanks

What Moki said we need pictures.

But most likely mold :(

Thanks everyone I think I'll just assume mold and keep them separate. I wasn't really asking if it was mold just whether bloom/plume could form inside cellophane. Maybe I'll get a digital camera once I have money. Thank for the help.

Yes, plume can form inside of cello.

MillhizzelPb The cigars are still in the jar not willing to take a chance and put them back in humidor with rest.

I dicected a cigar and did a little research and it looks like it's a case of white leaf spot.
