Klipsch(Walt) generously sent me this to help me decide which PL RE box to buy. Thank you, Walt, for this tasty gar!
A sunny, warm, and humid day here in DE. The wasps are loving it and us over-educated fleas love it, too. This is a handsome cigar that had the foot squished a bit and measures 4.9 X 50.
Pre-light - Silky wrapper smells much like a PLPC, habano wrapper smell, with good draw and a taste of vanilla and molasses.
1st third - Foot toasts easily and first draw is easy resulting in a good amount of smoke. Taste is like a PLPC on steroids. Cocoa, vanilla, and spice. Burn needs correcting once. As this third winds down the flavors intensity drops off.
2nd third - burn is straighter and flavor starts to change to a floral/earthy profile with just hints of the former flavors. I'm getting sweaty so I'm heading in to finish.
Last third - flavors continue to be more muted than the first third but still very enjoyable. Draw and burn are still behaving. Get a bit of bitterness with less than an inch so that's it for me.
Conclusions - This was a very enjoyable cigar. Can't help but wonder if the ring gauge was the cause of the muted lighter flavors in the last half. Although I enjoyed it, the value at this price point is a bit off, IMO. This has me thinking the Encantos might be the better cigar. This brand might just work better in a smaller ring gauge. Or not as I haven't tried the Encantos nor read any reviews of this newest PL RE. But if you have a chance to try one and, like the PL flavor, you will enjoy this cigar.
