I have a few boxes of these resting since earlier this year. They are from 07. I've dipped into it here and there but they are just now coming into their own so I figured its time to review.
These have a slightly rough but uniform construction. The entire box looks great. I'm very impressed with these for the price. The cigar clips well and provides and ample draw. The thin ring guage makes even lighting very easy.
The start of this cigar, like maybe the first inch, is peppery and a bit rough. Smoking slowly doesn't do much to tame it. I'm resigned to the fact that this cigar just starts out rough. Every one I have tried has been the same and they always seem to settle down by the end of the first inch or so. Following this the smoke smoothes out and the flavors start to kick up. The flavors are simple but very enjoyable. I'm getting straight up caramel with slight hints of wood and possibly a nutty flavor. There isnt' much depth here. Its mainly a sweet caramel flavor. But they are tasty. I've heard that aging doesn't do much for these. I've left 2 boxes to see what happens and I'm smoking through one box now. So far I really enjoy them. This sample is no exception.
Overall I would recommend this for a 4 dollar stick. These are much more approachable young than the petit coronas. But they also offer much less in terms of complexity and slightly less strength. PL isn't a super complicated smoke in general. I would liken them to a ripe fruit forward wine that is very approachable and easily enjoyed.
