What does it do?

Is it in anyway superior to distilled water?
If it is, can I use a 100% solution instead of a mixture with distilled water?

Thanks,
K

You should NOT use it on beads, and it is somewhat similar to antifreeze if I am not mistaken. I think I'll pass on smoking antifreeze. I like water.

Supposedly it regulates humidity and prolongs the need to refill as often. Beads do that for me just fine, and chemical free I might add.

Dammit!
It seems like this is a case of "I say potato, you say... propylene glycol"

Go ahead, give me a "Do a search you newbie!"
I'm a big boy, I can take it.

Anyways, I'll most likely end up going the highly recommended bead route, and if you can't use it on the beads, well then... meh

Anyone mention using "search" yet...??...

....point being you don't need it (PG) for beads. It will eventually "plug" the beads and impede their ability to get the job done. Get yourself a gallon of distilled water and a little spray bottle and you should be good to go for almost a year (more?) once you have your beads.

When I ran coolers, I used socks of beads in them all and enjoyed rock solid humidity control. I still use them in my cabinet to add some "ballast" to the humidity when the pelt coolers kick on.

Polyglycol is some chemical solution which is used one time for few months mixed with distilled water (50/50) in this green floral sponge humidifiers. It said it helps to protect it from mold.

If you check your local smoke shop, on or off line, they have bottles premixed. The 50/50 solution is supposed to regulate the humidity at 70%. I assume weaker solutions = less humidity but don't bet that I am correct.

I used it a little but bought beads from N2adventure based upon numerous recomendations. I have only had the beads in my collidor a few days but I already have a whole lot of love for them.

Just to clarify - PG is in no way related to anti-freeze. PG solution is non-toxic, and is meant to be used on floral foam, as it helps to produce a steady 70% RH and doesn't dissipate quite as fast as distilled water. Never use it on beads for reasons mentioned above.

If you need a bottle let me know, I still have a few in stock. It's pre-mixed already, so all you have to do is fill up your humidifier with it (assuming you're using floral foam and not beads). I use it in my traveldor and it works excellent.
